    Not Easy with the Mossberg

The more I think about it, the larger the magazine nut issue on the Mossberg looks. I just don't think I can get there from here. That's too bad, because Mossberg makes a 20 inch vent rib barrel and Remington and Winchester don't. It would be so easy if I didn't want the extra magazine capicty, but cutting down a barrel on a Remington or Winchester definitley looks easier than dealing with the magazine nut on the Mossberg. SInce it would require changing platforms, I think this is going on the back burner for a while.

The Centurion 2 inch buckshot shells Bigcasino posted about certainly look intersting, but a couple of the reviewers noted feeding problems specifically in a Mossberg 500. Bigcasino, what platform are you running them through? Do they feed reliably? Anyone else have experience with these?

To convert a standard 500 to higher capacity will require the replacement magazine (ATP8) and the corresponding ATP8 20" barrel. Magazine is cheap from Mossberg, barrel I have no idea.
You can't add an extension to the 500 like a 590 or Remington or any other SG with a magazine cap as oppossed to the magazine bolt that secures the barrel on the 500.
You'd be way ahead just to buy a dedicated SD/HD shotgun with the capacity that you desire.

I would look for an older Remington 870 police trade in

OP, Don't forget you can always reload.

5 in the mag is plenty. I intentionally practiced reloading so I can get more in quickly.

I like the vent rib and have one on a shortened maverick 88 barrel, but has the standard mag capacity. I was torn between standard and full length mag tubes. The standard balances better and is not so muzzle heavy. But I like the full length mag for maximum rounds. I ended up buying the 7+1 Mosbberg 500 and it is my dedicated home shotgun. I am perfectly good with a standard bead sight on that one and no rib.
