mossy tri-rail experiences?

Hey Mossy owners -

I'm planning on getting a Mossberg (most likely a 590), and wondered how those of you with the tri-rail are fairing. I'm wondering in particular if the bottom rail grinds up your hand, or if it's not really an issue. I was planning on getting a non-rail version and adding a nordic clamp to mount a HD light, but really don't think I need more rails than that.

Thoughts?

Have the 590a1 blackwater with tri rail. Not as comfortable as a nice smooth wood grip or even a plain synthetic one, but I didn't notice it all. I could rack it all day no problem. I haven't put a light on yet so I couldn't tell you if something like that would get in the way, but the way I hold it makes me think it wouldn't be a

Thanks for the info - I'll keep that in mind. I'll probably get whatever I can find locally, but I'm open right now. Any negatives about your 590?

Haven't put many rounds through it, so not yet. I'm probably going to get scolded about this, but I didn't disassemble and clean/lube my gun before I first shot it. Only shot about 100 rounds of federal/Winchester 8 shot and every round cycled flawlessly. Not sure if you're planning on getting the 590 or 590a1, but mine feels so solid. No cheap plastic parts or anything. Nothing bad to say at all.

Also, don't settle for local if its not what you want, and its probably not because most local stores have a small selection. Buying online is easy. I've never done it before and it wasn't a hassle at all. Get what you want!

I would avoid any type of railed forend, whether it be a full on tri rail, down to just a small rail section mounted on the forend such as the Mako.
The forend is used to work the action of the shotgun, and should stay clutter free.

Try a Houge forend, is has a nice grippy feel to it. you'll like it, I'm sure

Point in case. To some (me), its not a problem. Others have opposite opinions. Pick what works for you.

yeah, I need to goto a store and try them out. I'm leaning towards non-railed, but I do need to feel them out.

I had one and sold it in the marketplace here. My hand was too big and I couldn't get a solid grip without jamming up my thumb aganst the side rail everytime I shot it. Didn't feel well. I replaced it with a Hogue forend. Much nicer now.

My hand isn't that big, but I too kept jamming my thumb against the side rail. Perhaps I just have an awkward hold, but didn't like the tri rail after trying it.

I didn't like the railed forend on my 590 so I swapped it out and just added a railed block for the light. Works like a charm.

Update: got the tlr1-s and mounted it on my tri rail forend on the left side rail. Couldn't ask for a better fit. It's in the perfect place at the perfect angle for me to operate it. Just my .02

Now. take a fighting shotgun class, and find out if is still perfect.

I have a 590a1 and the only rail that really bugs me is the one on the right side. I have big hands and that rail f@#! $ with my ffingertips. Ill be removing it shortly
