When did Ithaca 37s start chambering 3 inch shells?

Out of curiosity I want to know which year Ithaca started making Model 37s with the ability to chamber 3 inch shells? I'm trying to Google it, but it's not giving me any specifics...

    Thanks!

So this only applies to barrels and not complete guns? Good to know, maybe I can mixmatch an old WWII era 37 with a '63+ 3" chamber, it'd be an interesting combo...

That won't work. The pre-855000 s/n barrels are not interchangeable between receivers (the barrel is fitted to that specific receiver).

          So for pre-#855000 it's 2 3/4" shells only?

As far as I know yes. You can find more detailed answers on the Ithaca Owners forum:
