Congratulations OP, I've been lurking these forums for a few weeks and your post finally made me join.

I have a Benelli Supernova and it shoots 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2 inch shells. I've only got around 500 rounds through it so far but it cycles everything I've put in it, from bulk Walmart Federal and Winchester target, bird, and buck shot to random shells my buddies handed over.

Mossberg 835 pump. Cheap and reliable. 18 pellets of 00 buck per shot
It's the equivalent of pulling both triggers on a SxS shotgun- but be warned, it kicks the same.

A Remington 500 pump assembly can be made to fit with some work too (may be drop in, I'm not sure). Then you can use standard forend mounted lights and accessories.

Really liking the Remington 11-87, especially their "Police" model with the 18.5 inch barrel and Ghost Ring sights

Wish I could do something about the charging handle though... I'd like it to be more akin to a Benelli's round bolt handle, just easier to grab with gloves IMO.

I have the 887 and absolutely love it. Ran about 750 rds through it so far and no problems. Ran all types of slugs and buckshot through it. Shot a few 3 1/2 shells just for fun too. Just make sure to clean it when you buy it!

                This^^^

I have the 887 NitroMag as well and I have run a lot of 3.5's through it. No failures whatsoever. I haven't put any 3's through it yet. I figure if I can do 3.5's, why would I use any 3's? I also ran hundreds of 2.75's through it. I would recommend it. If you want a defense type I would go with the 887 tactical. Just my .02.
