    Sticky: 870 vs 500/590

Both the 870 & 500/590 are terrific scatterguns. Both manufacturers have their (+/−)'s & both will serve you well. You can't go wrong with either! Its simply a matter of taste. Handle/shoot both, & pick the model that fits you & your needs. Thats it! The internet is full of the Pro's & Con's of these two manufacturers (please, by all means do your own research) but in the end its still Ford vs Chevy. Flip a coin, you can't go wrong with either.....

Yep both good, but I don't think one was bailed out by the government and given to the unions, so I don't see how the Ford vs Chevy comparison applies

I've got an 870, a 590 and a Maverick 88. All three go bang every time I work the pump and pull the trigger. Think I like the 590 the best though.

590 has a bayonet mount to hook up a knife. Going to get one later down the road

Exactly. Personally I prefer my 870s, husband had a few various mossbergs, but he has since sold them all, and decided only 2 870s for himself were needed lol.

Honestly both will serve well, and fine, just the 590a1 is so gosh darn huge, I am really small lol, so...I like my shorter 870 just fine

given the choice, i'd go mossberg for these reasons; quality control, and control positions, remingtons just seem ridiculous. that said, i have a winchester defender i like more than both. sold my mossberg to get it, unfortunately they don't make them the same, although there is a super-x defender available i hear is nice. if mossberg made an 18.5" 7-shot, i'd buy it, but they don't, and the win is faster and smoother so....that's that.
