    Anyone have a Weatherby SA-08?

    Hey guys,

Having a weird issue reassembling a Weatherby SA-08. Disassembled it for cleaning and when I reassembled it, I can't cycle the bolt at all. The recoil plunger arm is correctly seated in the recoil spring cap and the safety is off.

Took it apart again and was able to depress the recoil spring with a chopstick. Put it back together and same thing. The bolt drops back about an eighth of an inch and locks up.

What am I doing wrong? Anyone else ran into this problem?

I've run into the issue before. Once you get it figured out, then it's not a big deal, but it's kind of a pain the first time.

You have to make sure that the recoil plunger arm that you've mentioned is very straight when you try to put the bolt back in the receiver. I find that it's easiest to have the gun standing straight up with the butt resting on a flat surface. I then try to line the recoil plunger arm up so that it's parallel to the receiver cut-out for the bolt handle. If that thing isn't positioned right, then it'll do just what you've mentioned.

If that doesn't work, then give a call to the guys at Weatherby's tech support. It's usually best to do it while you have the gun in your hand so they can walk you through it.

You won't believe what was going wrong. I definitely made sure everything was seated in the right spot several times. Checked for any clearance issues or pins that were jostled loose.

After staring at the exploded diagram for 20 minutes, I realized I'd installed the recoil plunger arm upside down.
