    Savage 24D .22LR over 20 gauge

Anybody else have one? Was given one in great condition, unsure of age. Old enough apparently that serial numbers weren't required yet.
Resources for parts, manuals etc? Value? ( NOT selling, just idly curious)
Test fired today, worked great. It seems the breaking hinge is a little stiff but the oil in there looks pretty old and wax like.

I don't have one but I wish I did. I had the opportunity to buy one cheap a couple of years ago but I passed because it was a .222rem that had been reamed out to a .223. I wasn't sure how safe or accurate the gun would be after that had been done. Maybe it would've been fine idunno. Savage now produces the model 42 but it brings a hefty price at just below $400. You've got a great gun there.

Congrats! Lots of info at the link below.

I like my Model 24 combos. I have two .22lr/.410 and one .22lr/20ga. The .22lr/20ga is my favorite.

I have one, also .22LR over 20ga, and like it quite a bit. Since it takes down into two equal-length chunks, it lends itself nicely to fit into a smallish case with foam cut-outs for ammo. While I did pay $200 for it just a couple of years ago, it's not a perfect gun by far. It was a 24D model but a previous owner cut the barrel down to make a poor-man's 24C Campers Companion out of it. Still a nice gun.

            I have a 22lr over 20ga as well.
I'm going to take it squirrel hunting the next time I go.
I just need to get more practiced at switching to the shotgun barrel while cocking the hammer between shots...

Might take you up on that. I bought it to take care of our ground squirrel issue and I think a scoped .22 would work better. They go for cover when you're still a good 50 yards away.

It works quite well for that purpose

I have a 24V series C in .222/20 guage and I like it a lot! I'd like to find one in .22/20 guage for the price I paid for the .222. It'd be less expensive to shoot, tho' I do reload the .222.

I have a savage 22/20. Not sure what model, my father in law gave it to me 15 years ago or more. It is in beautiful shape, and I don't think he shot it more than a few times, as it was a gift to him when he moved to Texas. I think I tried to figure out the model before and maybe a 24m or p?

What are the general consensus on prices?

Prices are kinda high. I looked at gun broker and I'm seeing prices north of $400. There is one in Costa Mesa that is currently at $260 with 3 days left. I'm definitely in the market for one but before I paid an outrageous price for one I would just order the new model 42. It's lighter and has synthetic stocks. My LGS can get them for $367.

Wow. That seems steep, i was thinking of listing it for maybe 300 tops.
Now being there's no SN does that mean C&R?

I believe no serial number just puts it before the gun control act of 1968. I could be wrong though. I would love to work something out with you on that gun. If you decide to sell it please pm me.
