If you own a Mossberg 930 SPX come in here

About a week ago I received my SPX back from Mossberg. I sent it in for a canted front sight. They installed a new barrel, new magazine Choate extension tube, & spring. The spring is significantly shorter than my previous one that came with the gun by the way.

Before I sent it in I found out that my Nordic clamp was causing my follower/spring to get stuck at the top. I took off the clamp and it was good to go after that, but I find it weird that out of no where it started acting up. Anyway, so I get it back from Mossberg and I function check everything. Everything seems fine, but early yesterday while doing another function check the follower/spring got hung up at the top again.

I didn't even have the Nordic clamp on either. I loaded/unloaded the tube about 30 times after that with no problems. I then decided to install the Nordic clamp and every now and then when I load in the 7th shell the follower/spring get stuck up top. I take out 4 shells, tip the gun upside down so the barrel is facing the ground and the weight or impact of the shells hitting the follower usually pop it back to normal.

Have any of you guys experienced these problems? What did you do to fix it? I figured with the shorter spring that it would be good, but sometimes that's not the case.

Is your's the newest version or an older version? There have been a number of production changes over this product's lifetime and the canted front sight was supposedly corrected long ago. It would be odd if they're coming off the line wrong again.

About the spring hanging up, assuming you don't want to send it back again or give it to a gunsmith, unscrew the extender and carefully measure the ID of both tubes. It's likely that the main tube is slightly smaller than the extender, presenting a lip or burr that the spring is getting stuck on. File or sand it to get rid of that step and you should be good to go.

[Edit] Another thing to check is that the extender/mag tube junction is truely round. If either is distorted it will be definition impose a lip for the spring to get stuck on.

Yes, mine is the newest version (GEN 3). My front sight was barely canted, but I'm anal like that. I'll try filing the tube like mentioned. Thanks!

Get a Nordic follower. Mine had follwer issues when using a Nordic extension and stock follower. I think the extra spring pressure was cocking the follower sideways a bit. I cut the spring down a bit as well. You may also need to use a steel wool swab and smooth out the mag tube. Mine runs great(when I keep the piston clean).

The Nordic clamp goes on one way, if you look closely one side is slightly larger than the other side (one clamps the mag tube the other side on the barrell). If you tighten it too much upside down it may just be enough to bend the tube enough to put a kink where the mag extention meets the lower lip. I do own an SPX gen 3, but mine has another issue with the elevator so I've read a lot about SPX problems. What the guys above said also makes sense, I know this stuff is frustrating so hang in there, it is a good shot gun once its tuned.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm aware about the clamp going on one way.
