How can I purchase this shotgun?

A buddy of mine has an older 12g Rem870 express that he is looking to sell. But here's what I'm curious about:
The gun was purchased for him as a gift by an old roommate about 15+ years ago. He never had it transferred to his name. So how would we go about transferring and selling to me?

Shotguns are not registered.

You would "transfer " through an FFL via PPT.

Just go to an FFL. As long as it doesn't show up stolen, you won't have any problems transfering it.
