    Trulock vs. Colonial Arms chokes?

    Hey guys!

    I finally acquired a 12ga Baikal IZH-27 over/under (USSG MP310) and it came with IC, M and F chokes.

Looking to replace the factory chokes with a complete set of extended chokes and am looking at Colonial Arms and Trulock. I've heard nothing but praise for Trulock, but anyone have experience with Colonial Arms extended chokes?

The kicker is, I've got $150 to spend and the Trulock chokes are $45 vs. only $25 for the Colonial chokes--nearly half the price. I can buy six Colonial chokes versus only three Trulocks.

It also looks like the Trulocks are longer than the Colonials. Does that make a difference?

If I can only buy three Trulocks, which types of chokes should I buy for the most versatile selection?

Main purpose is for both 5-stand and trap once a month, with dove/quail hunting two to three times a year. Might step up to turkey one day.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I've got a Spartan 310 (Baikal) and run Trulocks on it. They're incredibly better than the factory chokes. Look on Gunbroker and search by the part number of the choke you're looking for. I just got 2 more chokes for $33ea.

I'll have to check out the Colonial chokes. I don't think I've ever read a review on them.

Good call, wilits! I would love new chokes, but without first seeing a pattern board with different loads, might was well grab a couple of used ones.

I've been reading up on the Colonial Arms chokes on the shotgunworld forums. They have a sub-forum for Baikal owners and those guys seem to like the Colonial chokes a lot.

They also have titanium nitrided chokes called their Golden Sporting Clays line that give the chokes a gold finish and supposedly makes them more resilient. Even these are cheaper than the Trulocks at $28.50 each.

I'm still curious whether the longer Trulock extended chokes make that much of a performance difference over the Colonial chokes.
