JC Higgins Model 20 12 Ga.

Picked up a JC Higgins Model 20 with a Power-Pak choke about a year ago and finally took it out last week on a Quail hunt.
    WOW!
It is now my favorite shooter and will take the place of my Winchester 101, Franchi Grifone and Rem 1100 for any future Quail hunts.
The only drawback was the "long range" tube that it came with. It absolutely destroyed the 2 birds I shot. I gave up after the second bird and just enjoyed the hike. I could actually see the tight shot string!
Since then I have ordered, and recieved 2 tubes from Corson's, a medium and short range, and am looking forward to trying it again this Thursday.
    What a fun shotgun!

I believe that it is a High Standard Model 200. If you can replace the choke, great. If not, look at moving to the Winchester feather lights, or some of the other reduced loads. They usually have a lighter charge and less shot in them than standard field loads. It may make hitting small moving targets a bit more difficult, but at least you won't have to pick up your bird with a sponge.

Nice, the JC Higgins model 20 is usually a great bargain, as they were well made and can be found for low prices on the used market now. Even better, most of them are C&R qualified due to age and can be purchased from gunbroker.

Considering that they pulled the JC Higgins line in 1961/62, they are all C&R, or will be in a month and a half...
