Cleaning new Beretta 3901

Please forgive my very newness to shotguns. I did a search and could find nothing about cleaning and breaking in a new shotgun. So I will ask and hope that someone can help me.

I have read that you should break down (that scares me) my new 3901 and remove all of the packing oil. When I got my shotgun from the FFL it was oily. I mean oil everywhere. I couldn't even hold the gun till I wiped it down.

So, I need to take it part and clean all of this oil off and re-lube? All I have is either Hoppes or Frog Lube. Should I get something else?

I could really use some good advice before I take off to do trap shooting this weekend.

Does anyone oil or wax the wood stock?

Whenever I get a new gun from the manufacturer I like to take it apart, clean, and lube it myself, cause I think that the manufacturer tends to over lube everything since they don't know how long the gun will be sitting and if you take it shooting in that condition you will get a lot of gunk throughout the gun. I got the Beretta 3901 2 years ago and love it! You will not be sorry with the purchase. I use hoppes and it works fine. One thing to make sure you clean in the gas cylinder, it tends to get really dirty and caked with gunk after a lot of shooting like trap. I just let it soak in a jar of hoppes over night and then go at it with a toothbrush. Between hoppes, a bore snake, and some ingenuity you're good to go

Thanks taescooper. I did get a wood stock. I took the shotgun out yesterday and patterned it and shot 100 rounds. It was amazing. I love this gun. The pattern was great with no flyers. Just a real nice tighter pattern. Taking it out tomorrow to get some stock adjustments done by a gunsmith in GV.

Note what he says in the video about not lubing the parts of the gas tube. Something not intuitive for a beginner.

Also when you take out the "cocking handle" that little thing on the side used to cock the gun, it is very difficult to do the first few times. I guess they loosen up after a while but they make it sound like you just grab it and pull it out. You don't. I used a small piece of wood to help pry mine out because it would not come out with just grabbing and pulling.
