how many rounds before you hit your first 25

in a single round of trap, of course. i probably hit 25 in a row over 2 rounds, but those don't count. LOL

i've come close to it but no cigar. hit 24 probably about 3 times. 22-23 even quite a more. at least i don't miss 1 near the end. it's usually during/after the 3rd rotation.

    my round count so far:
    remington 870 express - 300
    beretta al391 sporting - 1400
browning midas micro 20ga -175 (it's SO's but mainly to goof around and still trying to figure it since she's not going out and i don't want it just sitting as a safe queen.)

granted, i have a harder time figuring out the midas vs. the 870 . the 870 was my first when i first started and i got a better feel for it way quicker than me trying to figure out the midas (no mid-bead to help me but the 870 didn't either). all my scores close to 25 were on the beretta. mainly using federal wally world ammo + some estate ones from the cabella's sale a few months back.

Let's see - most of my teens thru post college - I probably only averaged 6 rounds of trap a year up until the last year and a half (so given the time frame, something like 2000-3000 rds?). My best was a 24 with my little 20ga 870...finally bought a new gun a year and half ago when I finally started shooting on a regular basis... and ran my first 25 with it on it's first outing (during a trap shoot).

My advice would be to stick with the Beretta (since you shoot it well) and see if fine tuning things like the drop at comb and cast, along with checking your foot and body position, consistent mounts, following through, concentration and focus, etc...most of all, keep on shooting!

Once you get that 25 barrier, the 50, 75 and 100 straights will follow in due time

Yep, back when I was shooting a lot of T&S it took forever to break 25, then I was able to click them off pretty regularly, then I lost interest and started shooting sporting clays.

I'm still waiting on my first 100 straight

100 in SC is an accomplishment when you get it!!! What do squadmates do for that? Make you take your shirt off and shoot it?

Never shot trap, but I have been considering it. Group shoot anyone?

hmm. ok.. i kinda vary what i focus on sometimes. sometimes i work on trying to make a really clean-break, like poff.. the entire thing is smoke. i figure focusing on clean breaks will get me there. but because in league we shoot handicap, sometimes i focus on quick acquisition and try to get it fast. that way if at a handicap and i need more time for target acquisition, i hopefully can get it before it apexes at the top that way i don't loose too much power/momentum since stats say you lose effectiveness around 30 or 40 yds?

i only started in april this year.

p.s. yeah, i tried sporting clays. if a station is setup for doubles, i'll practice some doubles also. but sporting clays was pretty hard my last time out. it seemed the way i was reading the signs where the birds come from was backwards most times. (cayote clays in morgan hill)

                Fifty.

I got 25 the second time I ever went trap shooting with my Dad as a kid.

He suggested I was something of a natural with a shotgun.

It took me a few years of regular shooting before I got my first perfect 25 in either 16 yard trap or skeet.. then a little more time to get a 50 straight at skeet.. I've yet to get 75 or 100 straight.. the 50 straight was with 2 diff guns/actions/gauges.. one was with my B80 semi-auto 12, the other was with my 870 20 gauge... I shot a pair of 24's a few weeks ago after not shooting skeet in some time.. I even shot a 23 recently and managed to miss the last two low 8's.. argh!!!

I have been shooting skeet for 2 years now and still no 25 . lots of 24's but not one 25. different guns , different guages, windy, calm, hot, cold ect...

For skeet, it was about 80 rounds of skeet before hit got 25 straight. That was just a couple weeks ago. For trap, it was roughly about the same 80-100 ish over the span of my life. Then I got 50 straight in trap about a month later. That was when I decided to try skeet. Trap was getting easy.

You may want to try sticking with one gun... When I first started shooting trap I would switch between guns, and was never really successful. Sure I would average decent numbers, but nothing felt comfortable. Now I stick with one gun and have shot a 25 and average 24.

                            Just a thought.

oh i do. i mainly use the beretta. i started with the 870 and once i got my beretta, it became a safe queen waiting to be converted into home defense (shorter barrel).

i only shoot the browning maybe 1x every 2 months just so it gets used. i only did 50 rounds this week and this is after maybe 2 or 3 months?

i did realize do not shoot the beretta *after* the browning. i was flinching like crazy and had to adjust to the trigger.
