It's almost Xmas time and I wanna get a shotgun for HD but wanna get into hunting, so if I buy a shotgun that holds more than three can I legally block it with a dowel to hunt, or would a HD shotgun limit me in ammo selection for hunting, I don't know much about shotguns and chokes and rifled chokes and all that fun stuff

Most HD shotguns either have no choke, or very little choke. That, combined with their shorter barrels make them somewhat more difficult to hunt with because the shot tends to spread out rapidly. If you want to get just one shotgun, get one of the combination packages that they sell with an HD barrel and a 26-28" hunting barrel with removable chokes. That way you get the best of both worlds for very little extra money. There is no limit to what you can shoot out of a shorter barrel though. If you use sabots or other slugs designed to be used with a rifled bore, your accuracy will suffer, but nothing else will happen. It will still go boom, and send metal downrange.

As for the wooden dowels, that is the way most pump shotguns come from the factory. They normally have the dowel inserted into the magazine tube out of the box. It is up to the consumer to remove it. It is only required for certain kinds of hunts though. If you are going after some kinds of small game and birds you will need it. For deer, varmints and other non-game animals, it is not required.
