    Popcorn question...

If I were to load a shell with popcorn kernels and fire it would enough heat be created to pop any of the kernels as the fly out of the barrel?

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

Well I can share that a shot cup filled with cheese wiz will penetrate your drywall ceiling.

Yes, and no. Yes, the gasses are hot enough, and no, they won't pop.

Popcorn pops because the moisture inside the kernel boils, increasing the pressure inside the kernel until the shell bursts. The heat from shooting the shotgun isn't applied long enough for the water to boil and pressure to build, so the popcorn won't pop.

I vaguely remember mythbusters trying something with explosives and popcorn, but I'm not entirely certain about that.

The other reason is due to the wadding. Obviously, the point of the wadding is to keep a majority of the gasses behind the projectiles as everything gets expelled out the barrel. Of course, some of the gasses will leak around the wadding, but I assume that the heat transfer will be pretty poor.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

Actually I'm a high school math teacher. One of my students asked me this question today. I told him I'd post it on the Internet and see what the experts have to say. I figured it was a long shot but hey, you never know

Why would you say this BEFORE we see the video? You may have just un-motivated him into not doing the video...

Just don't try to catch it on the way out of the barrel.
                        Insert something clever here.

The above made the post worth reading. Love it. And soon the Mossberg guys would be posting in how their 590 Pops the stuff better then the 870 and the semi-auto bunch would be bragging about the volume of "Shot and Pop" they can put out over the pumps. And sure as **** Kel-Tec would come up with a dual popper. Where will it end?????????????
