    Wingmaster question

I can't really find this in the archives or any other forums. I can't even find them for sale, so I'm not sure they exist.

Do they make 18"-22" Remington 870 Wingmaster barrels with a smooth bore? All I see is rifled, and on THR.com, I read that you can't use an 870 Express barrel on an 870 Wingmaster.

    Anyone with any insight?

        I recently bought a used (like new) 20" RS barrel with screw-in chokes---I know there are 18-22" barrels out there---I have an 18.5" blued bead sight barrel---used but very nice---that I would sell---it's a cut-down 30" no vent-rib now cylinder bore---say $65 + shipping.

Because the newer production Express models have a different barrel lug, making them incompatible with any of the older receivers.

There was a big thread in this forum where aippi explains it in detail.

Well it doesn't exactly give me the info I need.

I'm trying to find a combination of Wingmaster and short barrel that will work, or to see if it even exists. If they made that change recently, could I get an older Wingmaster with an older short barrel? Are there specific years that I would need to look at?

THE NEW MODEL JD POSTED ABOUT IS ONLY ONE MODEL IN THE 870 LINE. So far. The fear is this is the way Remington is going.

You can buy any 870 barrel, Wingmaster or Express and it will fit just fine. Just make sure it's not for the NEW HD model with the FIXED EXTENDED magazine.

Read the thread link posted above and you'll understand the difference. Unlike m16, the poster above.

ETA: there are no barrels produced for the new model HD gun, only the 18.5 that comes with it. Any Remington listed barrel will fit your Wingmaster or Express.

                Thanks for clearing the mud!

I have a 96' Wingmaster in jail and was thinking about picking up a short barrel for it.

Remington sells an 18 1/2 inch bead sight smooth bore with a blued finished. That should work fine in a Wingmaster. You can use a barrel from an 870 express. The finish just won't match if that matters. As stated above the 18 1/2 inch barrel from the newer style Tactical and HD models will not fit due to the different barrel lug location.

The 18.5" Bead sight I/C in wingmaster blued finish is part number 242252 and it retails for $150, however the 20 Bead sight I/C is part number 242253 and retails for $117. They are also listed on Gun Broker by a very good seller.

Thanks for the info. And are they compatible with Wingmaster shotguns? My confusion came about when I read that I wouldn't be able to use an express model barrel on a wingmaster.
