    Wax slug alternative????

Im looking at experimenting with wax / glue slugs. Each one has an advantage and disadvantage.

Wax Advantage: Bird shot breaks easily when impacting target, very cheap and easy to get a hold of.

Wax disadvantage: Melts, especially when your shooting all day.

    Glue advantage: Does not melt.

Glue disadvantage: A little more expensive, not water prof, keeps wad attached to the slug and screws with accuracy.

I know there are many more to list, but these are the ones that came to me right away. My question is, what else can I use?? to hold the bird shot together?? I need something that meets the following:

    Cheap
    Water prof
    melt prof (~250 degrees)
Not too hard when it dries
Easy to get a hold of

you can use hot glue or Elmers glue, but if it gets wet it melts. I need something brittle like wax but wont melt with heat or water.

          Cut shell.
          'Nuff said.

It's not a big deal compared to a wax slug since I would never consider loading wax slugs into a tube magazine anyway, so the shell being cut isn't a problem since it won't be feed through anything.

Second on the cut shells. Cheaper and faster to, "manufacture," than waxers. My papa introduced me to cut shells, and I never heard of them again, until I became a member here, hahaha. Although, they may not as effective. I say crayon slugs, and cut shells when you run out of crayons. Save the candles for light, hahaha.

BTW, I would +1 crayons to candle wax. Slightly harder to help it hold it's shape, but doesn't add a huge amount of weight per shell.

if you realllly wanted to screw around. make the glue one peel the wad off it, spray it with some really thin acrylic spray paint, put it in a wad and put it back in the shell.

alot of work, but seems to meet your criteria..

i personally have wondered about silicone sealant as the binding agent.

Melt lead shot into slug using pipe nipple set on smooth surface. Might wind up as a disc but worth a shot in a pinch. Or even possibly just dropping the shot into a pipe and pressing it together like they do with the newer frangible rounds?
