So today I was trying to disassemble our Winchester 1400. I watched a you tube and it seemed pretty straightforward. Unscrew the cap from the Mag tube.....no problem and pull the barrel off. It won't come off. I have had three different guys try it and it will move about 1/2 inch and then it is just stuck. I watched all the you tubes I could find, and they all made it look easy. Well it isn't. Is there someone here that knows what the heck the problem is?

Some Help Please- Winchester 1400

I had this happen on a Wingmaster once. I purchased it used, so it had been together for God knows how long. I used a spray lube and added more after it was slightly separated. Sprayed and worked the barrel back and forth until it finally came apart. It took a while to get it apart, just remain patient. After careful cleaning and a little dab of grease it went together and came apart without any issues. Good luck._______________________________________

Thanks. I will try both. Did both before and it didn't work. I will try again with these suggestions. It went to the gunsmith for cleaning and he didn't say anything, but I sure can't get it apart now.
I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. UnknownComment

It has been months since I posted, but I will tell you that it has taken this long to get this darn gun apart. I took it to the gunsmith a couple of times to get it completely cleaned and to fix a trigger issue. Both times my son picked up the gun and I never got help in taking it apart. I read what I could online and several people had the same issue with their 1400.
I finally got the darn thing taken down. Well, my husband got it apart. We dripped Frog lube in the 1/2" gap between the barrel and receiver and just let it slide down the barrel. We worked it back and forth and up and down as much as it would go (about 1/2") movement. I put some frog lube in the ejection port and let it sit and slide down the barrel and then worked the gun up and down and back and forth again. It really felt like it was catching on something. Make sure that the port is open before you take off the forfend screw. None of this made it slide apart like it should. We finally took it and put the darn thing in a padded up vise and worked it back and forth until it came apart. There was no rust, grime or anything else holding it up. I have no idea why it is so difficult. Took a small piece if ultra fine sandpaper to the areas where it was so tight and smoothed them up a bit and then lubed the heck out of it. Cleaned the gun and put it back together. Then we tried to take it apart again without the vise. No-go. This gun, I think, will always be a pain to get it apart. My son took it hunting in the pouring rain so we had to get it part to make sure it was dry. We are going to find a new 12 gauge for my husband that isn't such a pain in the rear.
