If you are not....go to your local clays range and get 1 hour with a shooting instructor......it will pay big diividends and is cheeper in the long run.

my brother in law let me borrow an 870 and I did some test pumps and the shells didn't seem to be in my way. going to do some trap this weekend if I like it I'll probably by one of these

For hunting and sporting purposes, you may also want to look into over/under shotguns.
Stoeger makes decent equipment that does not break the bank at MSRP of $450.

A BPS is a great gun. I've had mine for 30 years and still love it. But there are used guns out there too. Look for an Ithica Model 37. Old and reliable, bottom eject, great guns. They don't have to be expensive.
