    Benelli M2 vs M3 shotgun

Does anyone have any input in regards to a Benelli M2 vs an M3 shotgun?

    The M2 is semi-auto
The M3 is semi-auto and Manual

The M3 is discontinued but i can still find them for sale. I was wondering why they discontinued it, if it was for reliability problems or what???

I would think that the M3 would be the best for both worlds and i am thinking about picking one up.

    Thanks,

The M3 is heavy confused and has no real practical purpose. You will be much happier with an M2.

Many PDs took off the Toggle on their M3s and converted them to Semi only....

The pump feature on the M3 is for shooting those non-lethal rounds, and for weak rounds that wouldn't cycle a semi-auto shotgun.

Most people won't be using those rounds.

So, M2 or M4 it is....

Buy a M3 and keep it on semi auto like a M2. Pump don't work to well and it is not the same as regular pump gun but hey you got a Cal Legal SPAS!

I vote for the M2. I don't like the pump on the M3, and it's also a lot heavier than the M2.

Sure you can use the pump to clear a jam if you have all day to do it. People clear jams with semis faster than you will unlock the pump. I know people that own them and none of them like them.

The M3 is one of those things that SEEMS like a great idea.

Do any one of you guys have an M3????

Well, I do and I think it's the cat's meow. It offers the best of both worlds, semi or pump with a flick of a switch.

The M3 is heavier than the M2....come on, maybe by one pound. Let me just say...work out more if one pound is too heavy for you.

Initally the pump ability was for bean bag rounds or door buster, but it also works great for reduced recoil rounds that may not cycle properly on semi. Big plus with the Misses when I leave home for the weekend and she has the M3...Remember it's not always a good idea to shoot 3 inch slugs, especially in apt or home settings.

Let me put it this way....I have a couple of ARs, a couple of AKs, a couple of FALs, a couple of 50's but only ONE SHOTGUN... With the M3, there is no need for a different version.
                        I'm Rick James...Be-otch!!!!

thanks for all the input fellas. Looks like the M2 is preferred overall and the M3 has it's fans. I also did some reading on this and can't really decide on one. One thing that intrigued me was the "double" action of the M3 but several people mention that the pump feature is not so good or useful. Then the fact that the M3 is discontinued... i think i will get the M2 for now

50 Freak. The heavyer gun makes it much harder to stop on target when engaging multiple targets.

If your gun won't reliabley cycle your home defense rounds then you have more home work to do.

If you like it and it works for you great. It's just not a choice I would make or advise anybody else to make after shooting them.

When I was in the market for a benelli, I held the m1 and the m3. I went with the m3 due to it being convertible. The weight difference must be slight, I don't remember one weighing more then the other. Since then I bought a 1014, which I don't like as much as the m3. Neither of the two have given me any problems.
