trap or skeet shells?

I've shoot allot of skeet but I never bothered with buying trap or skeet shells. I was wondering if they make a big difference? I'm talking about the Federal Top Gun and Winchester AA type loads, and if its just a recoil reduction then I wont bother. Thanks.

Finding the load that works best in your gun can always help some. I shoot Federal Top Gun a lot. Solid consistent patterns out of my 1100 and the hulls are very reloadable. Estate shells are a close second. In trap the consistency in pattern becomes key as you go into handicap.

If you just want to shoot, don't mind 3 dram loads and are getting good scores, then whatever you are shooting is working.

If you've shot a lot of skeet, then you know that most skeet loads are number 9's. Skeet is a game played at or around 21 yards.

Most trap loads are 8's or 7.5's. Trap is a longer distance game that requires heavier shot for inertia purposes.

The big name brands are the best, that's what they stake their reputation on.

Remington, Winchester, Federal are all great. Some do offer lightened loads for less felt recoil.

Is there a huge difference? I think so. Is it worth it to you, only you can answer that. I reload, I like my shotshells performance and believe that it rivals factory.

Most ppl who use the top loads do so due to consistency.. the target loads are generally using the top components, hardest shot, and have case to case consistency.. they will always feed and always work, period, end of story.. Most people who shoot trap only shoot 16 yard singles.. when you move back to 27 yards or shoot handicap, having consistent ammo pays off when shooting tournaments..

Those shooters usually aren't shooting run of the mill, off the shelf sg's.. most of them are shooting the top end stuff since they shoot A LOT! and need something that will put up with the pallets of ammo they feed their guns..

There is a reason you pay for the top end loads.. one other reason I failed to mention was that the top end shells are reloadable, sometimes up to a dozen times or more..

I'm going to shoot my dads new skeet course next weekend and my brother and I make everything a competition, so I was wondering if shells like Federal Top Gun would give me an edge

Confidence will always help.....if using better shells takes your mind off of the shells and helps you focus on the task of making the next shot.... then use the the shells that your confident with.
