Most Compact and Light CA Legal shotgun?

Just curious, what's the smallest and lightest shotgun you're allowed to have in CA and any good suggestions?

Don't know what the smallest and lightest is, but can anyone beat the Beretta ultralight? Weighs 5.95 pounds.

I just shoot clays with it. I look forward to taking it hunting. It is the lightest shotgun I've handled.

Most compact, probably.... a folding stock...

To use a folding stock... you would need a pistol grip....

To use pistol grip and folding stock... you would need a pump shotgun....

      So....

Get yourself a 18" Remington 870 and then get yourself a folding stock... that would probably be "the most compact".

      OK, just checked.

      Min barrel: 18"
      Min OAL: 26"

So, I think a 18" Rem870 even with folding stock, would make OAL over 26".

How much does the Mossberg 500 or Winchest 1300 18" with PGO weigh? Those things should be lighter than a 870 since it doesn't have a steel receiver.

Too bad we can't get Serbus here. That'd be the ultimate in lightness and compactness.

I'm not sure about the Winchester, but the 500 with pistol grip will be lighter then the Remington... And 18" is as small of a barrel you can go with in cali. Isn't OAL something like 26"<---Don't quote me on that, I gotta go look it up.

I would say the lightest/most compact would be something like an 18" barreled pardner/coach gun with a single barrel.

A break-action always ends up shorter in OAL and the single barrel would make it lighter.

Since you didn't specify action or capacity...

those mossberg 500 combos at big 5 are pretty light if you use the 18" barrel.
The stock is short and hollow as a result of cost cutting?

Exactly, my 5.5lb Benelli 20ga auto beats me up worse than my 7lb 12ga O/U.

If you want the shortest and lightest configuration possible... a folding stock or no stock with a pistol grip is the way to go.... And the Knoxx Breachers Grip (Pistol grip only) or Knoxx Cop stock (pistol grip with folding wire stock) are your only true choice that won't beat the heck out of your shoulder or break your wrist....

Also if your looking for an HD shotgun... then you may want to look at price too.... Because when it comes to defending your home and family, you don't want the LEO to confiscate your $1k+ shotgun for their investigation... Just a thought...

Maybe not the lightest, but the Mossberg 500 Cruiser Breaching shotgun is awsome. The barrel is actually shorter than 18", but there is a permanent muzzle device.

You can always get a semi-automatic shotgun with no stock and a pistol grip, as long as it was at least 26" in OAL and at least 18" in barrel length. You could also shorten a fixed stock on an 18" semi-shotgun to make an OAL of 26". The 26" OAL is the real impediment to a very compact shotgun.

I'll take a metal trigger over a plastic one anyday

Not sure light is a good attribute for a shotgun. Durability is one of the hallmarks of shotguns and why Winchester and Remington made such a name during WWI, WWII and into the Vietnam era. Even though humping heavy weapons and the rounds that goes with them sucks.

Benelli M1s90s are VERY light and compact. There is also the Valtro PM5.
