    AOW as a truck gun

Would it be lawful to have an unloaded Remington 870 AOW as a truck gun? Or does AOW status mean locked container?

Why not just have a standard 18" barrel...Clears up any issues and is just as effective.

I believe that AOWs, like any other NFA items must be transported in locked containers. Besides, an AOW 870 is a firearm capable of being concealed and, therefore, at the very least, it must be transported the same way as any other handgun.

        True.
AOW's (in California) are registered as handguns, so, must be treated as such. Then there's the pesky NFA laws, which require them to be transported in a locked case.

Not worth it for a truck gun. Kinda defeats the purpose. Go with a cruiser.

get a Mossberg 500 cruiser. You gotta deal with a 18.5 inch barrel anyway, might as well get the extra round over the 870, cheaper too.

            AOW and other NFA stuff.

If you have any kind of "self defense" gun, what you have is a gun that if used for it's intended purposes, will bring you plenty of "legal issues".

Unless there is some compelling need, why add the burden of possibly federal prosecution in addition to potential state charges in any "self defense case".

Most people carry a copy of their NFA paperwork with their NFA items. If it takes a CHP officer more than two minutes (after reading the NFA paperwork)to understand that it's legal, he or she should find a new job.
