Which shot gun should i get?

Hey guys i had a attempted break in about a week ago, and i'm planing on buying a shotgun like a mossberg 500 for home defense ( I've always admired the 500 model ) , but i want to get one that can have the magazine tube extended, and i was wondering if buying one from big 5 would be okay they always have good prices on shot guns and rifles so i was wondering if the guns they sell are worth the money or not, and would like to know what model mossberg is the best.

any input would be appreciated thank you.

Get a 500 if you can afford it. They're good to go. Did you report it to the police? If not, do so. You can also borrow a firearm from a friend. Check into this option to do it legally. Assuming of course, you know how to use it.

yes i did report that same morning, so the 500 is good to go out the box?, i have fired a 500 before and find it comfortable, but were should i buy it from? a gun store or like a big 5? I've heard that the guns from big 5 are cheap and aren't recommended buying from so i wanted to know is that true?

Big5's shotties are good to go for their prices. The key is on how to operate and how you maintain to make it functioning at its top.

I'd recommend a mossberg 500 with the two barrels or a remington 870. Can't go wrong with either and you can get them both from big5.

                870
                ?

Both have an action release, but it only needs to be pushed if you didn't fire the shot thats in the chamber.

OP: I'd suggest getting some more training while your new gun is "in jail". A mossberg 500 is a mossberg 500 no matter where you get it from, and Big 5 has a very popular combo that most people recommend.

Jeff Cooper stated: "Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician."

The same holds for shotguns . . . get training in the use of a defensive shotgun.

My first shotgun was a Big 5 special....Mossberg 590 (9 shots). No problems at all, still standing guard in my bedroom.

I'd suggest a 870 due to your name already being a mosberg fan to open your eyes on the 870 line.. If you can't afford the little bit extra the 500 will for you fine.

There is about 30 other what fist shotgun threads floating around for this month so look around plenty of info to answer all your questions.

If you are planning on using a shotgun strictly for HD, Big 5 has what they call the Mossberg "Security" on sale this week for $299. It is actually a 500 "Persuader" item number 50577 (http://www.mossberg.com/products/def...&display=specs) and not a Big 5 only item. 20in barrel and holds 8. I pick mine up tomorrow.

I think their 500 combo for the same price is a Big 5 only and uses a different forend.
