    Hawk 97

Well my brother got a Interstate Hawk shotgun as part of a payment. $50 worth, anyways, he didn't want it and gave it to me. I think it is an 870 clone, so would those parts be interchangeable? What is it worth? Any info would help.

IIRC they're made by Norinco. It is pretty much an 870 clone and by what I could dig up using a little google-fu returned mostly positive user feedback and ability to use most 870 parts, only thing that had an issue was magazine tube extensions. They're usually pretty cheap. Used from 150ish, new for around 200.

Also its the same SG as the H&R Pardner Pump Protector except for a minor cosmetic difference between their receivers. The H&R PPP only comes with a bead sight.

Supposedly everything except the barrels are interchangeable. However you can make an adaptor that will allow the use of Remington barrels.

Google and Youtube has lots of info on these guns.

They are great guns. To tell the truth, if I had to have an 870 style firearm, I would have a Hawk or H&R over a new Express. The new express shotguns have a plastic FCG housing, crappy hollow plastic stocks, and a really bad fit and finish (from the ones I've seen, which has been quite a few in the last few years). The Hawk or H&R? All metal, nice wooden or SOLID polymer stocks, wonderful fit and the parkerizing is beautiful. Also, I believe personally that they are more reliable than the actual Remington shotguns of recent production.

Thanks for the info, I can pick it up next week, but I may just sell it because I already own a 70's police magnum and a 590.

I actually do like the fake Winchester trench gun.

I have a Hawk 97 and the 870 parts do fit it.. But the stock bolt threads are different. And of course the magazine tube is longer so extensions arn't going to be flush with barrel as they are with a 870. Good shotgun though.

Did you end up changing any of the parts? I just ordered a Nordic components +1 magazine extension for a remington 870 to put on my shotgun. With the stock spring, it actually makes it a +2.

Im going to try and acquire enough parts to make this 922r compliant.

the hawk and rock-island 870 copies are widely accounted as better than a remington at this point. i wouldn't bat an eye at buying one if i were in the market or had an opportunity for a great deal. as it stands, i have a defender, so no contest.

Im pretty sure the rock island is a copy of the ithaca m37.

Ive shot the winchester and its a fine shotgun. I have a Remington 870 Express with 28" barrel now and was itching to get something with more capacity/shorter barrel and cant wait to pick up and take home the hawk 982!

Ya I ended up swapping out the stock and forend on my 97 with the new 870 stock/forend because they are lighter and left it as my trap gun since it has 28" barrel with chokes.

My 982 I upgraded the screws for sights, ati adjustable pistol grip stuck, hogue forend, and currently getting down a choate extension flush with barrel. That nordic looks good though it's pretty close to the end of barrel.

Does anyone know if the hawk's magazine tube has the magazine tube dimples that need to be drilled out?

i pick mine up on tuesday and want to be ready to either have to drill, or just install it.
