I am looking into picking up a shotgun for all around use. I want to be able to shoot skeet and maybe hunt a little. My budget is pretty limited so I won't be buying an auto loader. I am thinking the best option for me would be a pump action. What would you guys recommend for a first time shot gunner?

Wait till next month and then get the Remington 870 with the 26" or 28" Vent Rib barrel with Rem chokes and Laminated Wood stocks. After September 1st it will come with a $30 cash rebate from Remington.
Great value and should be around $340 to $350 anywhere in the country. You can change choke tubes to fit your shooting needs and even get an 18.5" barrel to put on it so it can double as a Home defense weapon the other 300 days a year when not on the skeet range or in the woods. There are over 100 barrels made for this weapon so you can alos get barrels to fit the need. Want to drop deer at 150 yards get a fully rifled barrel for deer season. I would agree, the 870 is the perfect do all tool
I had an Express and then I found a Wingmaster for a great price so I dumped the Express"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms." James Madison

Agree with above. 870s are perfect starter shot guns but hold up and are great shot guns all around. The rebate/sale should be coming soon at turners and other stores so keep an eye out.
Or go mossy 500 combo.. still think its the best low budget deal around with a great shot gun.Comment

870
Just a suggestion.....CHECK PAWN SHOPS FOR USED WINGMASTERS!! ...I have seen some awsome deals on older Wingmasters at pawn shops. After you feel the action on a well used 870 wingmaster everything else....well just try it and see. I have seen some banged up ones go for $225 in recent times. These are bargains for the guy who wants to do a custom build. I LOVE THE 870!!!!!!!! My number 1 go to weapon for almost any situation.sigpic

off the top of my head, mossberg 500, remington 870, Benelli Nova or winchester super x pump.
Those are my 4 recommendations. If you can shoot all of them, i'd recommend it before you buy to see which one fits you better.
my personal two would be remington 870 and super x pump.Be the change that you wish to see in the world.Mahatma Gandhi
