    Remington 870 Wingmaster

I just picked up a used Remington Wingmaster. Is there a way of telling when the gun was made? All I have is the serial number - 827016V.

    Thanks for the help.

You can call or email Remington. If you call they have an option just for serial# lookup. 1-800-243-9700

Yes, the older 870s are the nicest ones---just beware that yours does not have an "M" in the serial number, thus it is not a magnum (will not take 3" shells, 2 3/4" only)---this is not a big deal as 2 3/4" is just fine. Enjoy!

Ya mine is a 2.75" only gun
2.75" in a pump gun is all that I would want

Anything larger would be run through an autoloader

Does an M in all remington shotgun serial numbers mean it is a magnum receiver? i.e My 870 does not have an M in the serial number but i know it can shoot 3"

Welcome to CGN! Congrats on your purchase. 870's are fine shotguns and are tons of fun shooting trap or skeet. Enjoy!!!

                      Wingmaster

Thanks for the welcome! I have always been a handgun guy, but recently have started looking at shotguns and rifles. I took it to the range yesterday, and it is awesome. My last shotgun was a single barrel, single shot when I was 17 years old, so this is much improved. I love the balance, and the smoothness of the pump.

Yes, its a 2 3/4. So far I have only shot buck, since I was at an indoor range yesterday. Plan on keeping it completely original, as is, with the wood stock and pump. I am going to add a 2 shot extender, swivels and a sling.

A 28" vent rib with removable chokes would probably be the easiest for you to find a cheaper used one. Gunbroker and ebay have good deals.

They might be cheaper to buy but OTD usually kills it.

Always add $75 to ever fun bought online which is the average charge for an FFL to accept a firearm.. Bs if you ask me. Found so many for great prices online but adding that fee just makes it an ok or price of a new from the stop 870.
