Mossberg 500 combo pack since it usually has a short 18" cylinder bore barrel and a regular field/clays 28" barrel with chokes. Fairly inexpensive and simply works.

Mossberg 930 JM in either 22" or 24" model.

I'm considering getting one for reasons same as yours.

Google it. It's a hot setup out of the box.

i like the 870s better than the mossberg but doesnt mean the mossberg is a bad choice.

the most versatile 12ga gun you can get is a pump action gun and get multiple barrels. 18-20" for home defense (and even skeet in a pinch, although can be harder to get that second bird using a pump) longer barrels with interchangeable chokes for something like trap and/or bird hunting. Rifled slug barrel with a scope will add to the versatility even more. barrel changes are very easy on the 870. Don't know about the mossberg but I would imagine it would be just as easy.

when you get tired of pumping that gun, you can move to a semi-auto. The pump is still the greatest HD gun IMO

Looks like i will be going for the Mossberg 500 combo pack, looks like it suits my needs perfectly. Thanks everyone for your input.
