Front sight Install (ghost ring) Mossberg 500

I live in the Dublin area and don't know of many gunsmiths around here. But I did speak to one and I asked him about what it would cost to install a front ghost ring sight on my 500. He stated that I should just buy another barrel with the sight already on due to the cost of install would be high. Does this sound right? And if so is there any way I can install it myself? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
