    Are these good for HD?

    I know many frown upon BB shot for HD but since these are high density will they penetrate better?

    Denser than lead? Harder than lead? If they are, they will penetrate better . . . still inappropriate for a defensive shotgun in my opinion.

      Remember that "shot" does not act like a slug at close distances. Each pellet carries its own weight, no more. meaning that the heavier each individual pellet weighs, the further it is likely to penetrate.

      Will those work for HD? Probably in most situations. Buckshot is recommended though

          The weight of:

          * BB is 8.8 gr
          * 00 is 53.8 gr

          The 00 buck will provide much better penetration.

            I personally would use those for HD just stick with 00 buck.

              IMHO if you are at the point that there are intruders in your home, and you are in fear for your life, or your life or those of family members, and need to use deady force to stop the threat it may be a poor time for experimenting with the terminal ballistics of ammunition. The best thing is always to go with a load that penetrates 12-18" in calibrated 10% gelatin, and performs well in actual shootings. 00 buckshot, or #1 buckshot have proven to be about as effective at stopping close range threats as anything that us civilians can obtain.

                Stopping the threat is problem #1. Following that civil and criminal legal issues (problems #2 & 3) that arise . . . in that order. To many people are try to manage problems #2 & 3 without solving problem #1.

                  This^^

                  I've. Wen trying to preach this for so long. Too many people worry about their neighbor than worrying about not being alive.. I that's the case don't buy a gun for home defense. Go buy a taser or paintball gun.. Even those carry legal issues.. I for one will try at all best to be alive in the end even if that means life for a string of bad luck. Worry about that maybe what it possibly bs later and handle the right now for sure threat about to take your life.

                    if you are attacked by flocks of ducks or geese, then this is probably the best option. If, however, you are attacked by a human...it would be smart to use ammunition designed to take down animals of similar size/build. That is why buck shot and slugs are the preferred ammo for HD use in shotguns. The human is roughly the same mass as a large Deer, and I think we would all laugh at anyone who tried to hunt a Deer with bird shot.

                    If you want to worry about the legal implications of shooting someone, that's fine. But put your mind at ease by EDUCATING yourself about the law and understanding the instances in which deadly force is ok. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST UNDERSTAND WHEN IT IS OK TO SHOOT AN INTRUDER IN YOUR HOME!!! This will eliviate all your problems because if you know and understand the law, you wont shoot someone when you don't have the right to, and you wont have to worry about lawsuits.

                    If you are worried about overpenetration, then you need to train. TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN!!!!!! There is no such thing as too much training. Get yourself mentally prepared to win the fight and you'll stand a much better chance of doing so. Slugs aren't going to penetrate a human, then pass through a wall, and kill another human. The BG is likely going to retain the slug in their center mass, and if it does pass through, it is HIGHLY unlikely that it will carry enough energy to pass completely through a standard interior wall. (there may be some weird way in which you could align a perfect shot with the perfect ammo, through the perfect path through the body and through a perfectly compromised wall.....but the odds of that happening are probably slimmer than winning the lotto)

                    point being, if you hit what you're aiming at, you wont have to worry about over penetration, SO TRAIN WITH YOUR WEAPON!!!!

                    Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

                      Frankly, I am surprised that Remington is marketing these rounds in this way. I can imagine no serious defense shotgun class promoting this round as the Ultimate HD round.

                        Keyword "marketing". Have to keep finding someway to generate the revenue stream. The uniformed are going to see this and see "Ultimate Home Defense" and buy it just on that labeling. "Ultimate" has to be better right.

                        Sure these are better than birdshot but as previous posters have said when it comes to you or your loved ones lives it's best sometimes to stick with the tried and true. In this case 00, #1 or maybe #4 buckshot in full power loadings have proven themselves to do the trick.

                              I agree. I someone is going to shoot someone else in their house, I think deadly is the way to go. Otherwise, you might be taking care of a blind criminal jerk forever.
