On a budget I'd look for a good quality used shotgun. My first pick would be an LE trade in 870P or an 870 express.

I too thought I wanted ghost ring sights when I was looking to buy my HD shotgun. I was at Turner's and they had an 870 Tactical with them on there. Every time I tried to get on target with the targets they have on the ceiling, it took me longer than when using just a front bead sight because I was trying to line up the target through the rear ring. I ended up with a Mossberg 500 with a hi-viz front sight and I get on target so much faster than with a ghost ring. My .02

Speaking of anyone know any good trade in joints?? Been looking for one want to pick one up.

the norinco 870 clones are awesome. i sold my real 870 express because it didnt cycle as smooth and had cheesey plastic parts.

While, I see your point regarding origins of a computer/device, I definitely can't agree with the rest of your post. You already buy things from overseas, so why not just buy everything there? Also, buying direct knock-offs? No thanks.

I would suggest the Maverick 88 Security 6-Shot, it's around the same price as the knock-offs and is a value brand assembled by an American company using some parts manufactured across the border (Mexico) instead of overseas. Also, it's a product they normally make, not one filched from another company.

People focus on the amount of money they're saving by buying overseas knock-offs, but if a company can assemble/manufacture a similar product for around the same price in North America as a knock-off from overseas, no one ever goes the other direction and asks why that knock-off isn't even cheaper due to the lower cost of labor/materials. I'm guessing they are making a huge profit on people "saving money". I'm all for actually saving money, but justifying a purchase based on the fact that you already have some things made overseas just doesn't wash for me.

I just got a Stevens 320 w/ pistol grip and ghost ring sites.......shoots great for a HD shotgun for $200!

I picked up a Hawk 982 for $199.00 a couple years back during a Big 5 sale. Been happy with it since. Shoots a variety of ammo without any problems yet. Just changed up the furniture to Magpul Stock, Forend, Mag Extension, and Side Saddle. (See Attachment). Also, with the money I saved I went and also bought a Maverick 88 (8-shot) during the last Big 5 sale for $219.00. I am happy with them. And have no complaints yet. Spent a little over $400 and got 2 decent HD shotguns.

I have a mossberg 500 and a mossberg 590. 590 is more expensive but a lil tougher. You can pick up a 500 with the 18 1/2 and 27 ish barrels for 320ish at big 5 every few months they have them on sale. I use mine for clays and switch out barrel when at home. Got a birds head grip on it and a $60 light/forgrip on front. Shot well over 400 birdshot 100 buckshot and 50 slugs threw my 500 and only once had an issue. Or you could just spend $20 on a baseball bat :-D

When you buy consider manufacture warranty and service center locations. I've never understood going cheap on a life safety device. You get what you pay for in the gun world.
Can knock-offs serve the purpose? Of course, but depending on your amount of training it's been my experience that the cheaper guns just don't hold up to extensive training regimes. And you need to be very well versed in the operation and deployment of a weapons system if you're talking about staking your or your family's life on something.
Had a Stevens Ithca 37 knock off in a recent Level 2 Police Academy. It didn't survive the less than 300 birdshot, 100 round buckshot course. Timing is critical with a gun that both feeds and ejects out of the same port. Although Stevens agreed to service the gun, it still failed after what should have been a routine break-in amount of ammo.
Is this a condemnation of Stevens guns or knock offs in general? No. I've witnessed all brands fail (some more than others) but again you get what you pay for and life safety equipment is not where you want to be pinching pennies. Buy the best you can afford, not the cheapest POS on the rack.

One reason I like 870's is you get find knowledgeable people to work on them and get parts almost anywhere.

Online reviews are very good. Pretty much except barrels this is direct 870 clone that appears to be better quality than current 870 Express models. Again except for barrels this shotgun will use most any addons for an 870 out there in the market.

Made in China so if that bothers you then you'll probably want to pass on it.

Thanks for the heads up. I went to my local Big5 after seeing your post on Sunday. I got there just in time to get the last one

I figured I should pick one up before they get more expensive. I've been reading all the great reviews on them for the past few years, and already regret not picking one up back when they were around $170.

I'm really looking forward to this one, it'll be something new to tinker with for cheap.
