    870 Tactical Marine

    Hello All!

I am looking to put together a tactical 870 build. Sounds like a quite common enough build but I would like to start with the nickel coated Marine version which should make it a bit more unique (but to be honest this is not a totally original idea as I have seen a few done well on the web that have inspired me as they have looked awesome!).

Does anyone know if this gun is available in a 3" chamber??? (I honestly don't need the super mag chamber on a gun I intend to put a pistol grip on. My wrists are tingling just thinking about shooting a 3.5" 18 pellet 00 buck load)

Thanks and any recommendation on the latest and greatest 870 tactical mods (that aren't too over the top) would be much appreciated.

If anyone owns an 870 Marine or knows of someone that may be looking to sell/trade plz shoot a pm.

I think this is my first thread I have acually started. So happy to be here all! I'm a bay area kid with the following toys:

-Rock River AR with all the bells and whistles and just enough bullshiut to keep err Cali legal
    -FN Herstal .308 FNAR
-Savage 30-06 BGH edition (fluted stainless)
-Winchester 88 in .308 (may be lookin to sell/trade if anyone is interested plz PM)
-Savage.22 (super accurate with my fav sub sonic rounds)
-Benelli SuperNova with Field and Cantilever Slug Barrel
-All Original Belgian made Browning Auto 5 12g
-The oldest little .22/410 over under on earth (my grandpa played with it when he was a kid)
    -Berreta PX .40
-Glock 20 (Full size 10mm with a bunch of mods)
-Full auto, folding stock nerf dart Street-sweeper with 50 rd detachable drum mag(shhhhhh!)

    Cheers

You'd be hard pressed to find a super magnum in a tactical package, those loads and that chamber are typically hunting loads.

You can easily find a Marine Magnum, which has a 3" chamber.

Yea Ive never seen anything bigger than 3" anyways.. most common loads are 2 3/4" to 3"..

I believe they have 3" chambers as most if not all 870s do now I believe.

The 870 Marine only comes with a receiver that is for up to 3" shells.

Sorry, to clairfy.... pretty much everything I found online for the Marine 870 was the SUPER mag so it was a 3.5" gun. It seemed most stuff mentioning older Marine 870s was in reference to 3" guns but I was only seeing the 3.5 available new right now.

That said I know I could have always just shot 3" out of it. But the 3.5" magnum feature seemed to add between $150 and $200 to the price so I was hoping for a cheaper 3" version. I put it on my wish list and one came in to day on Buds so I snagged it. It was 660 versus the ~800 price tags I was seeing for the Super Mag 3.5".

Next is to decide what kind of mods to make. I knwo I wanta bit of tactical decoration but for sure want a pistol grip. Please let me know if you have used any 870 pistol grip kits before that worked out for you. (if need me I'm happy to grab items piecemeal)

Since Remington does not make a Marine Super Magnum you need to buy that rare weapon Now.

They do call the Marine Magnum the Special Purpose Marine Magnum now days so someone is confusing you.

Special Purpose just refers to a finish. Any 870 that is designated "Super Magnum: takes up to 3.5" shells.

Again. Remington does not make a Marine Super Magnum. If they started making that model I have never seen it nor is it listed with any distributor I know of. Please share with us where you are seeing this weapon.

I'm pretty sure they do make a super mag version.
Check out the manual from Remington that discusses both a 3" and 3.5" versions below.

I give up man. OK, you want there to be a Marine Super Magnum then there is one.

So buy you that Marine Super Magnum and you will be a one of a kind 'cause you will be the only guy that has one.

For your future information the Remington 870 owners manual is a generic manual and not model specific. Same one comes with every 870 and every 870 Super Magnum. Does not matter if it is an Express, Wingmaster or Police model. Or in your case you will get the same one when you buy your 870 Marine Super Magnum.

You are not getting it: Remington does make a couple of 870 Super Magnums (3 1/2"), but the Special Purpose Marine Magnum is not one of them.

There was a 3.5" listed on Buds that was priced at $880. After I asked them a question about it they no longer had it up. I looked elsewhere and you guys are absolutely right there is no 3.5" magnum. The others I saw were just over priced 3" magnums.

I really convinced myself this thing was out there but I have to admit when I am wrong and I was wrong. One listing on a retail site does not make a gun reality unfortunately. Anyway, totally my bad. I guess there is indeed wisdom to be found and learned from Calguns (even once we've convinced ourselves the opposite of the obvious). Even around shotguns which I thought I had a solid understanding of.

Thanks for taking the time to try to convince me of the RIGHT answer instead of just telling me to kick rocks.

So the 3" Marine Magnum has an awesome finish I dont want to hide with excessive accessories but I stilll want a tastefully yet fun tactical 12G to run piles of 00 buck through in defense of imaginary invaders. Most likely to be represented by pumpkins and watermelons on BLM land next time we take a trip to shoot the fun stuff.

Any recommendations on a tactical kit that swaps out the stock (looking for pistol style) and the fore-end (could go pistol style or just something a bit more efficient/slick)?

If you have any pics that would be much appreciated

(again apologies for creating an imaginary shotgun)

For pure function it's hard to beat the Speedfeed IV. You can get the stock alone or get a set with stock and fore end. I run this exact stock on my 870, and it's what I am most familiar with (aside from OEM furniture) using the 870 as a LEO. Some people prefer the Speedfeed models that hold extra shells, but I am not partial to them. The shells have a tendency to sometimes jump out of the holders when the gun recoils. It's happened to me.

Vertical pistol grips on pump shotgun fore ends = bad juju looking for a place to happen. I would not recommend doing that.

I've been seeing a number of photos pop up on the board of the new Magpul stock, the reviews seem to be positive.

Kind of like the Mesa Urbino better than the Speedfeed (which would be the SF IV-S, short LOP). Most of my recent 870 builds, however, wear a traditional stock and I really like the Remington LE (again it's a short, 13" LOP), over the Hogue, with a SF forend. IMO, the new Magpul stock and forend are butt ugly, but that's just me.

Before and after of my Marine Magnum may switch out to a speedfeed IV stock. This is my trunk SG.

Thanks for the pics guys! I love the look of the Marine with a little tactical furniture.

Does anyone have any experience with the new Mesa Tactical (high or low-tube versions) adjustable pistol grip w/new built in hydraulic recoil buffer. The package is definitely on the pricey side but has anyone tried it and found it to be worth the extra $? (I have seen great reviews elsewhere but considering the cost I would expect nothing less)

                              See: http://www.mesatactical.com/index.php?id=55

Note I am considering the High-Tube with the built-in picatinny rail as I have a Burris red dot I thought would work well on this build. Can anyone with experience give me an idea of how differently a low v. high tube pistol grip would handle. Is there anything I'm not considering that anyone has experienced with the High tube that I may be missing?

                              Thanks Guys!
