Just dros a maverick 88 20" barrel. Heard nothing but good things about it so decided to get one. First time with a shotgun so any tips? Also what is a low Target/practice load to start with first since this my first time with a shotgun.? What would be a good hd ammo as well?

Being a pump gun it will cycle any loads.[ unlike a semi auto]. #4 buck has always been a favorite of mine for anything larger than a raccoon. My son has the 88 and likes it. His shoots the buckshot loads best from a Mod choke. He has a 28" vent rib barrel and a 20" slug barrel. Both accept screw in chokes. DR -
I personally prefer Federal Premium LE 00 Buck. Simply because it works well in both pump and semi-autos (regardless if gas or recoil operated). Can be had at places like Walmart, so it's easy enough to get. It's not the cheapest stuff though but does feed well through most semi-autos.
As dangerranger mentioned, #4 might be a better choice for HD though. Less penetration of rock sheet (dry wall). You could also use birdshot and while there are many posts out there how worthless it is for HD. At short range, it's still very deadly with very poor rock sheet penetration. But expect your range to be very, very limited (a couple of yards).Comment
