Gent's late July I am going to visit my Brother in LA and we plan to go hunting in the condor lead free zone(probably Angeles NF). Odds are that I will borrow his 870 which will need said unleaded ammo, it is equipped with a smooth bore 20 inch iron sight tube so sabot rounds are not an option.
Looking at my choices I was going to buy some Hevi-shot buckshot/slugs.
The slugs are cheaper but I'm kinda a buckshot guy so that's up in the air. After getting over the sticker shock I starting looking for more choices then came across this.
What I like about the Remington ammo is the price.
Did some google-fu on terminal performance and some guy said about a ten inch penetration in ballistic gel, plus they seemed to ricochet off cement floors and what not.(this is the buckshot he reviewed) Since it is frangible perhaps the slug would be a better choice i.e. deeper penetration?
That made me think that it might be an ok hunting/defensive round. Let me add that we are not going to be "hunting" per say, it is more of a chance to spend a day in the field, guns in hand and away from yelling kids/ screaming wives..or it that screaming kids/yelling wives?? If we spy a yote some rounds may go down range but the main ammo requirement is defensive.
