shotgun shooting fun

I was thinking of getting a pump shotgun 12 ga. 20" barrel for added home protection. My question is will it be fun to shoot more than just 5 or 10 rds. Before its starts to hurt your shoulder? Is there lite practice rds to shoot for fun practice that are cheap or cheaper than regular loads? I have some handguns So its not my only defense. I was thinking rifle 22 but besides Target shooting I don't think I would make much use for.

Cowboy up. There are more powerful shells and less powerful shells. Look for something with 2 3/4 Dram equivalent and go for it. Many trap shooters shoot 300+ rounds daily in shoots, you can too. You might be a little sore initially but keep after it.

I have taken a girl that weights a 100lbs soaking wet to the trap range before and she shot 2 rounds
so 27shells X 2 rounds

she was tired after that but anyone can mount a 12ga short of a injury

Just go buy a bunch of cheap birdshot / target loads, head up to the mountains and blast away. Most ranges won't allow birdshot etc unless your doing trap.

If your going to have a shotgun though you shouldn't be afraid of it... "please don't take that offensively"... They have lower recoil rounds, recoil reducing stocks, barrels etc... However at the end of the day the best remedy is to just go buy a bunch of 00 buck, bird shot, slugs and head up to the mountains, blast away until you master how to NOT let the weapon control you.

It's not the LOAD it's the Mount.

Proper stock placement (mount) in the shoulder will make all the difference in how a SG feels after a round of shooting more than 10 shots. Stock length affects a shooters ability to mount the SG properly. Too short is better than too long.
Get some professional training and enjoy scattergun shooting.

Not afraid of it. Just would like to be able shoot enough for fun. I read a couple mention going to the mountains. Is this cause most ranges don't allow shotguns? I plan to go to a range if I get one. Going to mountain seem like going out of my way a bit.

Get a pump with a 26-28" barrel, has interchangable choke tube and hit the clay field......punching paper can get quite boring.

Thats the most fun you can have with a SG and a very good skill to have under your belt.

By interchangable tube you one that will change from 26 to 18 or 20 for defense.

Can you shoot clay with a 20" barrel for fun.

Something else to consider, a .20 gauge can easily provide all you need for home defense and yet it's much easier on the shoulder for play time.

Second on the 20 ga it is all you need for home defense or shooting fun.I have one and everybody in the house can shoot it.The way a stock fits you has alot to do with felt recoil.So make sure it fits you correctly.
