I would like to purchase an inexpensive shotgun to hunt turkeys and for home defense. I know that there are plenty of accessories for that gun, but how do they pattern at 40 yards? I keep reading about those great pattern densities in high dollar gas guns, but very little about the Mossberg 500. What say you? Thanks...

I own two (Mossberg's) 1- 12ga 1 -20ga and have used them for doves to deer hunting; no problems - in all types of weather.

I have a 30+ year old Mossberg 500 that came with an 18 inch cylinder bore barrel. A few years back I bought a 24 inch vent rib barrel, that is ported and accepts choke tubes. With an extended extra full choke tube it makes a dandy package for turkey.
