Mossberg question...

Is there or what model number is a mossberg shotgun that holds 7+1, 28" barrel w/ interchangeable chokes preferably in the wood finish if not black synthetic will have to do. My intentions are to use primarily as a trap/ skeet gun and purchase the smaller 18.5 barrel for home defense since it easier to find as well as cost effective.

Let me know if such a setup exists and or anything close to my intentions.. Thanks in advance everyone.

If you get a 590 model that is the 6 shot you can use 835 barrels on it. Then you can add extended tube mag on that.

Or you can do vice versa. Purchase an 835 and use a 590 18.5" barrel on it. Then add on extended magazine. However, I believe with either of these two choices with the barrel swapping you're going to be limited to 3" shells only. Unless you stick with the 835 w/ factory barrel then you're good to go on the 3.5" shell.

Just a heads up, 835 has over-bored barrels which means it's not a good idea to shoot slugs through them.

In the Mossberg 500 there is no factory offered 7+1 with an 18.5 barrel, due to the enclosed design of the 500 mag tube it has to be a 20" barrel. So you either have to give up shell capacity or barrel length.

I personally feel fine with 5+1 and an 18.5 barrel. THen easy swap to 28" trap/hunting barrel. This combo would be perfect for you.


If you are willing to have a 20" barrel and synthetic stocks (you could always add wood later) get this.

Then go maverick arms page (mossberg slower brother) and get this:

that's a 20" You cannot get 7 in the tube on a 18" only 6.
