ACal: How many rounds do you figure you've fired thru your guns? I bet you've fired more than a few thousand.?

My point is that a Newbie thinking the Semi Auto is going to make up for his "Lack of Training" is foolish. If he gets a significant amount of training IE: Several Top Shelf Shotgun Classes, as opposed to watching many videos on You Tube, then he "Might" have enough gun handling experience to be able to run the gun efficiently under duress.

It took me 3 4 day Classes at Front Sight just to get past the Recoil issue with the shotgun. Then the next 4 classes to get to where I could operate the gun without constantly having to think about it.

And now since we don't get to go to Front Sight 2-3 times a year any more, most of my training has gone by the wayside because shooting is a Perishable Skill and if not Practiced Frequently it goes away !!!

    And that's a fact !!!

About the only Pump Action Practice I get these days is at Skeet Shoots and after our Range dries out I will be taking my Combat A5 with the Cutts Compensator Barrel up to shoot rounds with it to keep my gun handling with it somewhat in tact ?

9/10ths of Shooting is Gun Handling. and Loading and Unloading is the majority of that . Only things left are Mounting the Gun and Pulling the Trigger which is the easy part..

If you don't have the gun handling down pat it matters not what kind of gun you are shooting.

Gonna take .03 for this one.

I honestly don’t know how many shells I’ve fired through SG’s, as I’ve been shooting since around 8 or 10 years old. Everyone ( of the men in my family ) would go shooting at least once or twice a month. My dad’s family were military soldiers, and then we ( his kids ) followed in different military units. So shooting was just a thing we did ( grew up before internet and such ).

In the H&K Benelli a few thousand shells, same with the M2, and I have around 2,000 with the 1014. It’s been a couple - Now I’m just on the 1014 and the others are in a safe.

I really like the Benelli 1014 because I’ve never shot such a nice system.

As far as new or occasional shooters , yes train train train and keep fit. But I’ve been shooting for a bit and I have also taken some time with my 2 brothers ( who served in combat wars ) to get comfortable enough.

As I started, I may buy higher end firearms, but that is coming from all my years of knowing what firearms suit me, and it’s not buying a firearm that I would think would make me a better gunner 🤣.

No that is not the case, I could have bought a mossberg 590a1 ( I grew up shooting a mossberg 500 as a young Wart hog ) and I do know how to run a pump SG, but I’ve experienced and learned and believe the semi auto SG serves my purpose a lot better.

That’s a little bit into my experience, and everyone has their own preferences. I see nothing wrong with either system, do what works.

      Thank you.

My first SG experience was 1981, in the academy, then in patrol, with the 870 Police. I purchased my first SG in 2002, a PA. I've added two more over the years. Last month I shot a SA SG for the first time. Friend brought his Benelli out. I will say, I'm was impressed. Now I'm considering buying a Beretta 1301.

Glad you have both experience with the pump gun and the semi auto SG.

            A semi-automatic is a fine choice. I won't begrudge people for buying a semi-auto, especially if it's something easy shooting like a Versa-Max.

I stick with pump shotguns because I have them and they work.

            There's another reason to consider a pump shotgun. You can use those shorter mini-shells for softer-shootin' practice. It's like downloading a .38 Special in a S&W 19 vs. a 9mm in a Glock 17.

Appreciate the post and yes, stick to what works for you ( or anyone else.

Both systems are not hard to learn with some practice, and both systems are good picks.

I like semi autos because I find advantages that work for me.

              Stay safe !!

Only if you consider the older, classic HD motorcycles. The company has taken a royal shti, with that woke foreign leadership. Maybe someday it will come back.

Nothing more nice than a firearm that just eats and eats.
Glad that worked out for you. 940’s are gtg SG’s.

I have a pump shotgun fetish. I own quite a few of them. I own two semi autos, but I’ve never tried each one of them.
