    Help with CA compliant VR80

Howdy all, I'm moving to CA from CO next year and need to know what needs to be done, if possible, to make my VR80 compliant. There are CA compliant VR80's for sale that are mag locked, but keep the stupid original stock. Do VR80's fall under the mag locked vs. featureless BS like rifles or is there something else? Thanks.

Ok, so here is the relative penal code you need to work within:
    30515.

    (a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:
    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:

    (A) A folding or telescoping stock.

    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that does not have a fixed magazine.

    (b) For purposes of this section, “fixed magazine” means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.
There is no “featureless” option for semi-auto shotguns to have a detachable magazine.
You have to fix the magazine regardless of features.
You can keep the pistol grip as long as you fix the stock and meet the regular overall length rules and barrel length rules.

Barrel, sight and trigger work on most pistols and shotguns.
    Most work performed while-you-wait.

If you disable the gas system you could transform it to a bolt action basically, never tinkered with a vr80 so no idea how annoying it would be but it's an option often used for some other mag fed semi autos.

        This falls under 30515 (6) & (7) which I posted above.
If a shotgun is not a semiautomatic, it can not be an assault weapon under the the definitions of the law.

Totally. With how convoluted the laws are, it can be easy to miss some of the implications so I just wanted to share a potential solution that may not have immediately come to mind. Making semi auto shotguns not semi auto doesn’t just naturally occur to some of us as a solution. That being said if there is a convenient way to do so that would be easy to reverse, if for example the owner wanted to take the shotgun out of California and use it as designed, then that would be a good solution.
