Yes. I was wondering why it wasn't in the tactical wheelbarrow section.

I just built mine and whereas it doesn't look exactly like a Rhodesian A5, it is still 7+1 And has Rifle Sights! It also has a 20" Vang Comped Barrel which makes my Buckshot Pattern 7" at 25 yards.

I've got @ $800 in this one. Made in 1963. I also Have a Pristine 1964 Light 12 given to me by my Favorite Uncle in 1995. He purchased it locally in 1965. Had 22 rounds thru it when I got it !

Good, 'cuz true Rhodesian Police Model A5 shotguns topped out at about $5k a year or two ago, though they may be somewhat less now with the recent used firearms sales price downturn, hard to say since they come up for sale so infrequently. But as indicated above, a useful cognate can be made for under a kilobuck. Pic below of two of my attempts. Top is an A5 12 ga. Magnum (previous after market variable choke removed), maybe $800 invested, bottom is an A5 Light 12 (was previously refinished), about $600. Note that both had any collector value squashed by a previous owner and so were fair game for the alteration.

I used a Briley Mag Tube Extender that adds 2 rounds, I could have gotten +3, +4, +? but wanted the mag tube shorter than the 20" Barrel. I got my Light 12 from Art's Gun Shop and I traded a Magnum 12 strait across for it.
whatever you do make sure you get a gun that was made after 1963, and you will know that by the Two Piece Lifter which is easy to see, and gives you the Speed Feed Feature. otherwise you get a one piece lifter and the only way to load it is to turn the gun over and press the bolt release which also releases the lifter so you can stuff rounds into the magazine. This is the part of older A5's that sucks, but the good news is they can be converted to the two piece system by simply substituting the newer parts. Or Art's can supply you with the parts and even install them for you?

Best to go the Art's Route as that will insure the job is done right.

I think all the Rhodesian guns were made after 1963, But not sure?

Browning 12 ga. A5 shotguns all had the two piece lifter after 1953, which was the transition year. The Rhodesian Bush War went from 1964 to 1979, but there is question as to whether the Rhodesian A5 style shotguns (not marked Browning anywhere, only FN Herstal, Belgium) were purchased new or collected in the field post initial purchase. The Rhodie receiver serial numbers are all over the map and don't appear to follow the Browning A5 sequence. They are not indicative of a consecutive manufacturing run. See the index below of these shotguns that I've seen in the US, mostly via pics on the net.

For any who may be interested, here are the FN serial numbers and the attendant Rhodesian Army inventory numbers I have seen so far on the Bush War FN Police Model shotguns (internet sources not bookmarked): FN Serial #............Rhod. Army # (not seen).............RA047 (electro-pencil mark...

                    Here's my .02
About 12yrs ago one of the door sensors chirped that entry was being made. The only problem was I was sitting on the couch downstairs with a view of all three entry doors into the 1st floor of the house. The only exception was the door that leads from the outside/backyard into the garage. I checked the panel and that was the door that tripped. I told my wife to get the kids upstairs and grabbed a pistol and called 911. I staged near the bottom of the stairs where I still had a view of all the entry doors. I told PD everything I just mentioned above..that I was armed..and where I thought someone might be trying to break in. As I hung up the phone..I thought to myself..."Is this really happening?!" A sudden wave of calm came over me and I told myself.."Ok..if someone comes thru that door before PD gets here..it's on." PD pulled up on scene and their dispatch called me back to advise me of such...and that they would make their way around the back of the house...and to stow my gun. (Once I saw them come around the back I laid it under a pillow on the couch. I showed them the door that leads into the garage from the inside of the house. (They said there was no entry from the outside.) I told them we had only been there about a month and there's a lot of boxes in the garage..don't go storming in there. They went into the garage. I grabbed my pistol and made it safe..set it on the island. (Maybe not the best move at the time but I did it quickly and nothing came of it.) The came back inside and said it had to be a faulty sensor. (Which eventually it turned out to be.) They left and everything was ok. Some rattled nerves and that's about it. I didn't have my CCW at the time and had my firearms all locked up in our bedroom upstairs except for the HD gun in a lockbox secured to the nightstand. Changed that shortly after so that I had something within reach downstairs. We moved from a 1st house to our current 2st house.

Also...seeing this is the Shotgun Forum..I've said this multiple times before. A shotgun is not my go-to for HD. IF you can hold your shotgun/manage your WML/hold your phone to call 911 all at the same time then by all means go for it. I can't. But I can hold my pistol..hit the switch on a TLR-1HL with my trigger finger if I need light..hold my phone in my other hand as I dial 911 and also put a hand on one of my kids to steer them where I want them to go if I need to. So you guys do what's best for you.

Yes. I'm ready to take a life to defend me and mine. Without a doubt.

No, I believe the Auto-5 change to the speed load with two piece lifter came in 1953. See links below from SGW.

Hello all, 1st time poster here. I have already read several posts and this looks like a great forum... I have a question about the carrier assembly of an A5 (belgium). This last weekend I picked up an A5 at a fair price and was surprised to find out that the gun was manufactured in 1934...

Hey all, been searching for the last couple hours and have not found an answer to a problem(?) I am having with an FN Acier (Browning A-5 Clone). When locking the bolt back, I cannot get the liftgate to move at all (cannot push up to load shells into the tube). I did find though, that if I hold...

Chicken: I just called Art's Gun Shop and he did verify that the change over came in 1953-54. Art was one of the Gunsmiths in Browning's Repair Shop in Missouri for 30 years or so. He has many videos on You Tube on Servicing Browning Guns. He can also supply the parts necessary to convert a pre 1953 A5 to Speed Feed

                          I stand corrected!.

I will apply Dirty Harry's logic:
"In the original 1971 film Dirty Harry, Inspector Harry Callahan confronts his superior and the Mayor about a previous shooting incident. He defends his actions with a famous line about an assailant with a butcher knife, though the incident itself is not depicted in the movie. The story of the butcher knife confrontation exists only in Harry's account of events.
The exchange unfolds with the Mayor warning Callahan against a repeat of past incidents, to which Harry responds by stating his policy of shooting individuals pursuing a female with intent to commit rape. When asked how intent is established, Callahan describes a scenario of a naked man chasing a woman with a butcher knife and a "hard-on," concluding he's not "collecting for the Red Cross".
