      Skeet is the answer.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Totally depends on your environment, shooting ability, and the gauge of the gun you’re shooting.

I’m all over the place with my 20 gauge gun’s choke’s ranging from skeet to full.

12 gauge, I generally like to go modified for steel, and full or even extra full for lead.

16 gauge- I go full, but only because my 16 gauge guns are all older fixed full my choked guns.

Steel modified for dove? That shoots like a lead full choke....... seems a bit of a "focused" pattern for those delicate little doves.

Far be it from me to cast aspersions on what works for you (I know from your posts that you're knocking them down), but I'm shooting them over Mojo's, and a full choke would be akin to tearing open a pillow if I get a full pattern on them.

I agree with bigboss. I recently bought a barrel for my 870 that is threaded for interchangeable chokes. Put the improved cylinder in it a took it to the trap range and was doing better with it.

I know it sounds crazy, but yes, Modified for steel (even Improved-Modified using #7 shot in my 20 gauge) in certain areas.

For example, I got this one local spot that has a 150-yard long line of very tall mature eucalyptus trees that acts as a natural flyway on their way back up into the hills where they roost coming into sunset. If the weather is mild with little to no wind, the birds tend to come in through the tops (or even over the tops) of the eucalyptus trees, which makes for a 30 to 45 yard shot. Tighter choke generally seem to get the job done better in this particular environment.

Now if I’m hunting over a pond using my Mojo decoys, or out in the Imperial Valley on or near farmland, I’m typically running skeet or I.C.

And if I am running a full choke, it’s because I’m shooting lead from my 16 gauge guns.

Kinda depends on how far your shots are, but a Modified Choke should be close enough.
