    Vepr 12 or 1301 v.2

Howdy fellas, if you were to choose one, and only one what would that be and why? V12 or 1301 v.2 that is the question.

For me, the 1301. It just seems simpler, more conventional, and aesthetically pleasing.. I’m just not sure about magazine fed shotguns, unless we’re talking high capacity and I’m in a riot situation. The 1301 is actually on my short list of wants.

        Get the 1301.
Unless laws have changed, the Vepr 12 can only be legal in CA as a single shot.

I have a 1301 Mod 2 and it is my current favorite gun to shoot. 7 rounds in the tube, one in the chamber, an accurate, soft shooting 12 gauge, and eats everything I feed it.

What do you want to use it for?

A magazine fed semi-auto shotgun is an illegal assault weapon in CA.
In order to GET one in CA, it has to be compliant which means it needs to be converted to a magazine fed single shot.
That means you have to rack the bolt to extract the empty cartridge and load each new cartridge.

The 1301 does not have a detachable magazine so you can purchase and shoot a 1301 as a semi-auto.

Get the Vepr 12 or I'll trade you my Beretta 1301 Comp silver/black and a Remington 870 Marine Magnum for it. I made mine a fixed mag and the thing was amazing, I had 10 rounds at my finger tip. They run perfectly fine with 3 1/4 DRAM. I sold mine to a guy up near Sacramento and would live to have another.

Thank you fellas for all the responses. Application: technically you can hunt with both of them, but it's not really their intended purpose, is it? I plan on using them for training/self defense scenarios. I'm aware of V12 status in CA, but the gun will be stored/used in a different state. So, no issues here. I'm just hoping to get a feedback from those who owned/used both and get first hand impressions of pros and cons, and if they had to have only one what would it be. Thanks again, and please keep your comments coming.

Vepr 12 it is for me. Only other two I would ever pick over a Vepr 12 are my Remington VersaMax Comp Tactical or a FOSTECH ORIGIN 12. In a home defense situation even with a fixed mag, my Vepr 12 was just as lethal as any other shotgun. I really liked the ergonomics and the balance was just perfect plus I can make them fixed mag for about $.89 and a little love.

Saga 12 was good as well as the vepr 12.

How about the 1014 / M4 used by US Marines and in some conflicts.

Rem VersaMax and 1014/M4 has similar gas system, except VersaMax is more versatile less picky on ammo. I know 1301 has all the latest rave reviews, but unless you want to hang a bunch tactical gadget on your shot gun, may also take a look a simple inertia gun like the M2. However, inertia guns are not for everyone, try it before buy.

Sorry, mag fed shotguns simply aren't as reliable as tube fed. And the longer the mag, the less reliable they become. FTF and FTE all over the place. I have the 1301 T and it's a rock, it never jams, not once in about 1500 rounds so far with all kinds of junky, low brass birdshot as well as high brass buck and slugs.
The VEPRs are cool cosmetically but for practical use, the Beretta all of the way.

The big advantage with the 1301 (Mod 2) and other tube fed shotguns, both semi and pump, is I can top off the mag tube with shells. Start off with 7+1 shells, shoot four rounds, feed four more shells into the tube seamlessly, quickly, with eyes on target. No need to eject a magazine and insert a new one, or reload the empty mag with shells.

I have a M2 3gun which has an enlarged receiver, I can definitely out shoot any magazine fed shotgun.
