hi, i wanted to round out my collection with a shotgun. i don't want the discussion to get into a moss vs rem battle. i just wanted to know, big 5 has regular sales for mossberg 500 for like 299. remingtons usually at big 5 go for 400. then again there are mossberg 500 with two barrels and short barrels and everything in between. for my first gun, what should i get? multi barrel? i want it particularly for home defense, but wouldn't mind getting the most out of using it at the range to have fun from time to time. i just want to get the most out of my money and was thinking i just need one shotgun. thanks in advance.

The gun to purchase is going to be dictated by what it's intended purpose is. You indicate home defense and fun on the range. Does fun at the range mean shooting at man shaped targets to hone your skills with the shotgun as a defensive arm? Or do you want to learn to wing shoot and break clays?
If all of the above, the Mossberg combo gun is as good a place to start as any. But whatever gun you buy throw it up to your shoulder a few times and see if it fits you reasonably well.

Yup, hard to beat the Mossberg 500 combo for all things shotgun (HD and sport shooting) I actually have a 28" barrel for the Mossberg ATP8 I have pictured in my avatar. Great for "zombies" and clay birdies

I've got to support the Hatsan Escort that Big 5 sells. The semi-auto was $450ish out the door, and is the same exact gun as the Weatherby 459 (made by the same company with the Weatherby name stamped on it).Comment
