    Barrel length reduction 870

Well Im thinking I might be getting my bubba on in the near future

I have currently got a Remington 870 28" non vent rib fixed modified choke barrel and can only be used with 2.75" shells
so in terms of desire on the used market Im thinking it is pretty slim

I am thinking of cutting this barrel down

YES I know 18" is the minimum legal length
YES I know 18.5" is the suggested length

but I have got questions on the measuring

How is the proper way to go about measuring for the barrel OAL?

    Thank you for your help

As a LEO I was trained to measure from the face of the bolt when closed and locked to the muzzle. That is the 'official' way. I kept a 20 inch dowel for that purpose in my kit, marked at 16 and 18 inches.

Not a lawyer, just a former LEO proud to have served.

Hmm I guess I should have been smarter than the project
I will just match the OAL on a factory 18.5" express barrel
