    Help Finding a Shotgun!

My dad is looking into buying a automatic shotgun very soon however we do not know what to buy the gun would be just to shoot clays and possible hunting one day. my father wants a quality gun. 28" barrel if it could hold 3 1/2 shells that would be a plus but not required. He has been looking at some expensive berretas xtrema 2 and some benellis. But i think there alittle to much.

He said bass pro shop had a remington for $629 onsale awhile back which sounds really good.

    Price range is otd $800

    Thanks

I like the benelli inertial action because there isn't a gas system to clean. Those SG's are a tad sensitive to added mass as it has an effect on the inertial cycling. If you leave it box stock, they are hard to beat.

once again: I'd shoot my semi-auto all the time if it wasn't a bitch to keep the gas piston clean. lastly, I'd gor for the 3" magnum. the 3.5" chamber and long-stroke action is made for the big shells and if you are going to shoot 2-3/4's 99 percent of the time, the regular 3" gun shoots those properly and more quickly.

Really think about the 3-1/2" requirement, why do you actually want that? If you have a particular need, fine. But don't get it just because.

I'm a Benelli fan. I have an M2 I use for clays. It's easy to clean, no gas. I've never had a problem with it cycling. For $800, you're probably only really able to get the Remington. Have you thought about buying used?

you might want to look into stoeger shotguns, they use benellis inertia driven action, but cost alot less. my buddy has one, and i have used it a few times, works really well, and really easy to clean as mentioned above due to it not having a gas system.

for 150-200$ you can find a nice used remmington 11, it will perform as well if not better than any benelli (IMHO) but you will be limited to 2 3/4 inch shells

Remington 1100. I dont think you will need a 3 1/2 inch chamber. That's more for Turkeys,Geese,Ducks. Trap you will use 2 3/4 inch shells.

Ya im trying to convince my dad he doesn't need the 3.5 shells he doesn't hunt he wants it just cuz. Im pretty sure he will spend a bit more he almost impulse bought 1200 berreta.

so new under 800 hes looking at a remington or mossberg. he likes remington but i think he might pay more for a benelli. What models should i look for. he doesn't do well with the computer. And i want to make sure he gets a decent deal.

ajax im going to be lookiing for a shotgun to shoot 3 gun soon a $200 1100 sounds like a great start better then geting a new 870 where could i find one?

                Not an 1100, an 11

recoil operated semi automatic, original JMB design.

check gunbroker and the private firearms sales on gunboards.

I paid 145 for my first one and 150 for my second one.

They are C&R guns so you can get them with an 03 FFL or you can get them FTF here in CA.

                    Benelli SBE for 3.5 shells.

Otherwise any Benelli is top of the heap.

The Beretta shoots a bit softer

for a trap gun the 1100 is great because you don't care if it doesn't cycle the next round.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I love my Remington model 11. It is chambered for 2.75inch - 75mm chamber. And for a fast action 12ga it is very hard to beat.

BUTTTTT - When you shop for one ask it has a flat recoil spring or newer coiled recoils spring. Most of these guns are low pressure/stanard load ONLY. 2.75 heavy duck or magnum's are a BAD idea. You can shoot 5 once in a while - but a steady diet of heavy shells will break the stock and the action. When you look at a Model 11 or Remington Sportster lokk for cracks on the front handguard near the rear of the front handguard and look especially at the stock where it meets the action. If you see cracks or previous repairs, then look at action, bolt, barrell stop for excess smashing and wear. Few are left in 2.5inch 65mm chamber in 12ga - if you buy a 16ga get it check by a gun smith for chamber length.

(edit) Forgot many recoil springs were change to modern round spring but still have older less robust action. To get a heavier action would be very late in the production life of this gun and Remington was moving on to different designs and needed to keep up with marketing aspects. (edit)

For the most fun gun you ever own (BUY A MODEL 11). Bump fire is a joy and mine made friends angry because their auto shotguns just did not compare. This was BONNIE's favorate gun before the law caught up with her (Bonnie and Clyde).

You will have to be careful with what ammo you feed it and only disasemble to the 3 basic assemblies for cleaning. I would not reccomend taking fully apart.

Think about a modern auto loading in 3inch chamber - it is easier.

The Remmy 11's i've used never have a problem using high powered loads.

They all have a friction ring assembly that must be adjusted for the load that you want to shoot.

You can't go directly from birdshot to slugs without adjustment, but once you re-position the frictionring it doesn't mind.

The only guns that get damaged are the ones owned by guys who don't know what the friction ring is or does.

I guarentee you that Bonnie Parker wasn't using 7.5 birdshot in her cut down 20 gauge.

I got a buddy that picked up a nice Browning Gold hunter for $500 after rebate at Wild Sports in Folsom. I have never shot an auto beofore, but it was really nice. that seems like a good price.

Very Very Cool. Where is friction ring and any tipps - setting it.

(edit)Took mine apart and think I located fiction ring. I believe it is the brass/steel pinch ring on magazine tube above the washer and recoil spring. Do you pinch it more or ?????: Do you move steel ring forard or aft on brass thoothed ring???? 31: Great Ms. Parker had a 20 gauge. It is a great gauge for a girl on the go. I have seen a picture with this auto shot gun on her lap in a car. (Bonnie might have been napping or dead - trying to remember picture) I will look for it. Any way any info greatly appreciated. Fitting an extended mag tube to it tonight - mine is in 12ga. (edit)

Yes I know it has been used a little but it was $100 and it works every time.
