Was shooting down there about a week ago with my son. I have used a few of those for friends…they are well used I would say…but they go bang.

Side note. Talked to the folks and they said they are feeling a lot better about getting a lease extension. The County had purchased the land under them and the county Board of Sups is run by VERY lefty types that would use any excuse to close them…hopefully they get the lease extension.

The county has been rather supportive of the Metcalf range. So there's hope.

Sidebar; I went to school with the kids of the family who own the range and the kids of one of the families (Baird) who owned the ranch before it got bought by the county.

They have apparently successfully negotiated a lease from what I understand. The owners appear to be looking for a new owner to continue to manage it with the renewed lease.

Why would gun people sell to the county? You know it'll get closed sooner than later.

I don't think they owned the land. I was told they leased the land and the owner sold it to the county.

Correct. The cowboy action club that shoots at CVSC has said that there is a new lease but the current owner of CVSC wants to sell and retire so hes looking for a buyer.

Back when I was working…I helped public agencies like the state, counties, cities and various quasi public districts acquire lands they wanted. They can offer all kinds of incentives (depending upon the agency) like tax free acquisition, deferred acquisition, life estates, cash, and other compensation that a private transfer cannot. They also can threaten (and they absolutely do) to make life difficult for owners that may not want to sell. They can deny certain uses, entitlements, do code enforcement, hassle users, and even force the valuation and sale thru courts, and similar not so legal/ethical types of things. Most people negotiate something they can live with and sell…

I shoot at Coyote with my boys a good amount and am glad they got this worked out.
