Slide getting stuck in the back position

The slide on my Winchester 1300 Defender is getting stuck on the "Back" position. It takes a crap load of force to get it to slide forward again. I disassembled it and cleaned the crap of it and it still does it. I have a surefire weapons light on it ans a Speedfeed III pistol grip stock. The mounting bolt from the stock sticks out about 1/2" into the chamber, could that be causing it to stick?

That could do it. I do not think the bolt should protrude.

I will take mine apart and see if bolt protrudes into the frame area.

Get it unstuck, then move pump handle very slowly untill you feel it start to bind - look what is binding. It may help to take the trigger group off to see what is binding.

It's not binding, it just doesn't want to go forward after going all the way back. I am going to cut the bolt off tomorrow and see if that works.

Sounds like the bolt is blocking the action from opening ALL THE WAY.
The action is not supposed to be able to close until it's been opened all the way.
This gives time for the empty to eject and time for the next round to feed up in front of the bolt.
The fact that it won't cycle is keeping you from "short stroking" the gun, which is basically what you are doing with the limited stroke imposed by the bolt.

AR15 Barrells could have nailed it - 1/2 of inch of possible interfearance is a lot to any action. It also could interfear with less - but not good.


I know this is super basic - and you probably already know.

Protect the threads of bolt with scrap leather or cardboard to protect treads from vise jaws. (edit) Cut marked bolt with hack saw on the waste side of the mark. (edit) Dress bolt with flat file - then wrapp file in wet dry sand paper to polish end.

(edit) Also do you still have the original bolt for the original stock. Did the new stock come with a new bolt. If this is the only bolt after cutting make sure to order a new one for the original stock in case you want to switch back.(edit)

I had a problem like this with my 590A1....It turned out there was junk built up between the barrel and forend and as it was pulled back it to where the barrel is a larger diameter it would get stuck

1/2" is a lot to take off with a file. Take a grinder to it and then smooth the end with sand paper. I shorten screws all the time with a grinder.

Well the problem was the bolt being to long. I installed the factory stock and it works fine. I've been looking for a reason to remove the speedfeed because my arms are not long enough to shot comfortably with the LOP on it, and it looks better with a pistol grip stock also. Oh well off to the for sale forum with it.
