i dont think you ever remove the choke when firing otherwise the threads could get messed up. ive fired slugs through my cylinder choke just fine after making sure my chokes could shoot slugs and steel shotRemember... Four boxes keep us free: the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the ammo box -
Do not shoot a slug or anything without having a proper choke in place. Slug's require a special choke.

We're talking smooth bore, right?
I shoot slugs in a Rem., scoped. Some "random individuals" I shoot with were "b****ing me out about doing this. I CUT OFF (3") the barrel with a hacksaw. I put in an inside micrometer and determined that "factory choke" had to go. Am I am bad person?Comment

Can't say one of the above comments enough... never, ever shoot a barrel set up for choke tubes without a tube installed.
I've seen good to very good results shooting rifled slugs, also known as Brenneke or Foster type, through chokes ranging from Cylinder through to Modified. Light Modified and Modified both seem to give more than respectable accuracy at distance, say 75 yards and out if I do my part. I don't recommend shooting slugs through a choke tighter than Modified, particularly if it's a choke tube. YMMV.
