H&R/NEF Pardner
They are normally in the $150-250 range.
Rossi makes a "copy" of the H&R/NEF single-shot shotgun as well.Last edited by Quiet; 04-28-2012, 1:36 AM.sigpic

My first shotgun was given to me at age 11 and is a 20ga Volunteer Model single shot break down. I was given to my father by his grandfather in 1943 and was most likely manufactured in the Mid 1920's. I take it out every year for some time in the woods and shoot it often. Still shoots like the day it was built.JD McGuire, Owner

Single shots are heaps of fun. I have two somewhat ancient Iver Johnsons with exposed hammers that were my dad's; the .410 I first learned with and the 16 gauge I shot my first 25 straight with. Definitely worth prowling used racks to try to find a nicely maintained example as most will last many lifetimes.
If you are looking for a single shot to just have around for whatever the N&R / NEF is pretty hard to beat. Rugged, finished well enough and utterly reliable. The shortish barrel that is typically found on these is somewhat of a handicap for clays, but they are absolutely game getters.
If you want a decent single barrel for hunting or singles trap on a budget check out the Baikal MP18. These show up on sale at Big 5 occasionally but they are still a great bargain even at a regular price. Available in 12, 20 or .410. We've got a couple at the club we use as loaners and they shoot great.

I should have added a warning to my post. It is this.
These weapons in 12ga can be some what brutal. I fired that NEF with the 28" full choke barrel with a 3" magnum Turkey load as I wanted to pattern it. I only did that once and put the weapon up and went and bought a box or regular #4 shot to Turkey hunt with.
So find one with a quality recoil pad or be ready to add one. But then again I am a whimp and have to take to asprin just to cut my finger nails so the recoil might not be an issue to others.JD McGuire, Owner

This NEF cost me $35 before shipping & what-not, then I chopped and channeled it.
Barrel is 18 1/2", OAL is 28 1/2". The cheapo laser is bore sighted across the domicile, and while I wouldn't want to strap it on a bullet launcher to go to war, I figure it only has to work once!I meant, it is my opinion that...
