First Shotgun - Which one to get?

I own several handguns and a AR-15 (all Sig Sauer) and am now looking for a shotgun. I don't know too much about shotguns. I am thinking about the Benelli Supernova Tactical or the Benelli M2 Tactical. I am not too concerned with the price difference so that is not an issue. Would you prefer a pump vs. semi-auto shotgun? What are your thoughts on each of these shotguns?

Thanks for any insight that you can give me.

What do you want to do with it?

I recommend going lower end to start with, perhaps the Mossberg 500 combo from Big 5 for $299 (on sale, frequently), if only to help decide what you really want to do.

That would give you the 18.5" and 28" barrels, and allow you to experiment.

Then get a Mossberg 930SPX for HD.

I plan to use it for home defense and going to the range. I really like the shotguns Benelli offers and that they come with ghost ring sights so that is one less expense.

I would invest in a auto loader the only draw backsfrom Geting one over a pump action is that they can be picky with certain loads so you will have to try diffrent ones to find the right load

I ordered my Benelli Supernoa Tactical Comfortech with ghost ring sight from Bass Pro for $460+. I had the same question as you. which shotgun to get. Lots of people say Remington 870 or Mossberg. When I googled Remington 870 VS. Benelli Supernova Tactical I found many threads on it. Most people who love Rem. or Mos. would say these two have been proven through time. They love it. The gun has been around for more than 50 years. But I could not find a good comparison from mos or rem lover over Benelli. But the Benelli lover would go down and list things out for you why they choose benelli over rem or mos.

Saiga or Akdal are lots more fun but lots more $$$. If I was getting a pump, I would go for the 870, followed by the Mossberg. They are cheap, reliable and proven and there are tons of accessories out there to do all kinds of interesting stuff.

I ended up getting an 870 Express Tactical as my HD gun since I know it's a proven, reliable platform. Parts to mount a flashlight and more ammo were easy to find too.

I ended up getting a 3.5" Baikal MP-153 gas auto as an inexpensive playing around/camping/sporting gun. Turned out to be so reliable with anything I can shove in the tube, that I wouldn't have the slightest hesitation to pick it up in a moment of need.

I think that as long as you're totally on top of how to operate the gun, and handle/avoid unexpected situations like having the magazine tube cutoff engaged or forgetting what condition you left it in when trying to get the gun in action, that a proven semi-auto with ammo you've tested to run 100% is a very viable self defense gun.

I'm going to be getting one of these, 870 AOW. although I will be skipping the VFG, they bend the charging bars. The fun factor will be huge. The Knox Breacher Grip eats a lot of that recoil.

winchester 1300 defender or remington 870 if you want to mount sights or glass then the 870 tactical if you dont care about sights I would get the winchester. I take my 1300 defender for skeet/trap at angeles range and hit every single clay with no sights 18" barrel.

What do you want to do with the shotgun?

                        Rem870 or Moss500...everyone should own a pump 12 gauge....

It all started with a Rem870 pump when I was a young pup...now I have over two dozen shotguns....

Semi-autos are alot of fun...but everyone needs a pump !
